Hello FotoFriends!
I know, its been awhile! I did look at Fridays thread...nice produce photo from Lorell and MFIB has
spring beauties!
I have been busy getting a few gift items made for the holidays
(sewing/quilting)
DH is working on the huge oaks he cut down this summer.
His work has been busy and of course it was just too hot in August.
Finally cooled off so he's getting the trunk cut to firewood length and splitting.
My 1968 tractor has the log splitter on the hitch and his early 70s model has the wagon.
(he is stacking it on the other side of the yard).
Both tractors are Wheelhorse's.
We gave away about 3 cords of wood out of 6. This will bring the stack back up over that.
It's a cell phone snapshot I took from the deck and cropped it
to keep the file size down. (more details in trees = larger file size)
Hey there, Hi there, Howdy Ho,
Can you tell that I am feeling rested?
Not because I had a good night sleep, but just because I have been sitting around the last few days and enjoying the cooler temps and sunshine in the skies.
The trees are starting to change colors around here. Looking forward to getting some nice autumn leave images.
In the meantime, I will use the one below that I found in my archives last night while looking for something to add to our current Selective Color challenge.
LORELL
A month ago I took a photo of small cacti in a wide planter in front of a white house. It was nearing mid-day so the harsh light led to a rather stark image.
But I figured if I had enough patience I'd eventually find myself walking by the same house at a time when the lighting was more subtle and attractive.
That happened yesterday. The cacti and the house are facing east; the morning sun has just atarted to clear the houses and trees across the street, and I like the results...
Good morning - I couldn't start Tuesday without commenting on all the nice posts from yesterday.
Patty, I have never visited the Nacoochee Indian Mound but it looks like an interesting place. We have camped down at Kolomoki Mounds State Park which is another good place to camp. They have a museum there as well.
Great shots on the pups, Lorell. Nice treatment too, it's perfect for the shot.
That is one beautiful car Rich. (I had a '53 Chevy for a bit as a teenager). Looks like they have done some extensive customizing on that one. I remember buying all the custom car mags as a teenager, as well as auto mags in general. I seem to remember that a lot of lead was used when customizing the body, but might be remembering that wrong. There used to be articles on how to do it. I would love to see the engine - I believe Chevy did not start putting a V8 in their cars until 1955. Looks like they "chopped the top" as well, as it looks lower than stock. Lots of work done on that baby.
Interesting article Dave, and as Lorell said, a good ending. Sad to see the rose struggling to survive after having been tended to so many years.
I wonder if mounds were only a custom of Native Americans in the eastern part of the country?
Our nature photo meeting is tonight. I wasn't sure about going, but then I was notified that the subject is "Favorite Florida Birding Hotspot" so I figured it might be interesting. I hope more folks show up for this one than the last one, when I gave a presentation. Only 4 folks as I recall. At least it gives me an excuse not to do another program in the future.
Rich, I think I probably mentioned before, but my pinhole camera uses a standard 4x5 film holder, so I get 2 shots for each holder, and can swap out of another so I can shoot as long as I have film. I am actually thinking of riding the bike up to FDR state park where there is a stone over pass built by the CCC that looks interesing. Lots of buildings in that state park built by the CCC.
I think I have my travel book about done. Not much in there for the south Florida trip, just reservation numbers and addresses of hotels. We decided to break up the first leg of the trip from home to Ft. Meyers with a stop in Ocala, Fla. Then we can drive directly to Sanibel Island, have lunch, and explore the J. N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge before driving back over to Ft Meyers to check in. We'll be in that area 4 nights, then on down to Miami for another 4 nights so we can visit the Everglades and other areas around.
Exciting time for DW and me on Saturday. On our way to turn in my photos at the Georgia National Fair, about to make a right turn when DW starts shouting "Oh No, Oh No, call 911, Oh No!". What the heck???? I look up to see a car literally flying through the air, hits the ground, starts cart wheeling before coming to a rest on a fence. She is out of the car and running before I barely got our car stopped. "Call 911" she says, running up the hill. She was first to the car, couldn't get the door open. I'm trying to explain to the 911 operator where we are and what happened. Another car or two had stopped by now and a man got up there and managed to get the door opened. Pulled out a young woman who started running, stripping off her clothes as she ran. (Yes, you heard me). By the time she got down the hill, nothing on! She immediately went to our car, got in the drivers seat and locked the door. Couldn't get her out, wouldn't cover up, obviously in shock. Tried to start our car to drive away but a lady (who was a doctor) had managed to get in the passenger seat and handed out DW's purse, so without a key she couldn't drive away. She kept fooling around the steering column, looking for a key but our car is key less. Anyway, EMTs got there and managed to get her out and in an ambulance. LEOs there as well. Not sure what the full story was, but the other person in the car said she had some mental issues (You think?). Not sure why she was driving, but she was going at a high rate of speed when she tried to make that turn. She had told the doctor there was a snake in the car. Fortunately, neither person was seriously injured. I think the guy in the car might have had some bruised ribs. We were finally able to leave the scene and get to Perry with the photos. After we turned in the photos and went to lunch, we both had a much deserved glass of wine with lunch. So, how was your weekend?
I spent a fair amount of time yesterday arranging a trip to a birding festival in Laredo Texas. Airline tickets, rental car, hotel rooms, all take time to research and book. We had eTickets from trips that were cancelled due to Covid a couple of years ago, so that helped, but rental car cost is through the roof now. We were going to drive, but after thinking about it decided to fly instead. Less wear and tear on the old body.
Edit: I forgot to answer Rich's question about exposure. As I recall, the photo of the church was around 2 seconds. It was a bit under exposed though as I had miscalculated because of reading the light meter wrong.
Good day all!
Hoping for some rain today. Still in the 90's.
We had a free Hispanic Ballet here over the Labor Day weekend. They danced in traditional costumes. Performed on the Corn Palace plaza stage. Here is a short video of a few dances. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-Ea5Iub9uE
