Hi Folks

I've just realised that I haven't posted anything here this year. Apologies.

I'm still very active at our camera club. For our end-of-year session we are asked to present 5 of our favourite images from 2026 for projection. I decided to put my selection up here too.

Start of Dune 45 Climb.

Dune 45 is one of the sand dunes near Sossusvlei in Namibia. It is a dune, close to the main road, that the public is encouraged to climb to the top of. My image here is a shot taken of the tree adjacent to the parking area. You can see the footprints in the background going up the spine of the dune. It provides an idea of the number of people that have climbed up there since the last serious wind would have erased all traces of climbers.

The image was processed in Photoshop CS6 with assistance of the Akvis Sketch plugin.

Lovely image, Pete.

On the technical side - good values that perfectly suit the image, and a solid composition. I can see why you chose to submit this image.

My early morning walk yesterday resulted in this predawn shot...

It was a challenge to deal with the extreme graininess, and I was 50% successful at best. But I do like how the how the clouds against the relatively brighter blue portions in the sky look. And the small areas of brighter and different colors add much needed variety to the image.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Welcome back Pete. I have missed your excellent photos and manipulations! I do agree with Dave on his comments. The color suits the image! Well done!

Dave, an angry looking sky, but light at the end of the tunnel will soon break through!

Here is one from my way-back machine. I took the photo  many years ago in the Black Hills of SD at a place called Silver Creek Canyon. I intended to paint a watercolor of it but changed my mind and made it into a "faux" watercolor in Photoshop.

Thanks Rich.

That's a beautiful image - very well done with the watercolor effect in Photoshop.

Some very nicely done images here.
Peter D, A very pleasant sketched effect.
Dave, such a dramatic sky.
Rich, it certainly has the Birch trees and horse, leaping forth from the background.
Happiness simply is.
There need be no pursuit.

Thanks for the comments folks.

Nice early morning sky Dave. I think it needs a bit of grain - so great as is. I briefly worried a bit about the small spot of blue on the right edge, but came to the conclusion that I too would have left it in.

Neat manipulation Rich.
