Monday 26 September 2022 - damar - 09-26-2022

Hello FotoFriends!
I know, its been awhile! I did look at Fridays thread...nice produce photo from Lorell and MFIB has
spring beauties!
I have been busy getting a few gift items made for the holidays
(sewing/quilting)
DH is working on the huge oaks he cut down this summer.
His work has been busy and of course it was just too hot in August.
Finally cooled off so he's getting the trunk cut to firewood length and splitting.
My 1968 tractor has the log splitter on the hitch and his early 70s model has the wagon.
(he is stacking it on the other side of the yard).
Both tractors are Wheelhorse's.
We gave away about 3 cords of wood out of 6. This will bring the stack back up over that.

It's a cell phone snapshot I took from the deck and cropped it
to keep the file size down. (more details in trees = larger file size)

Patty, Oh man, that looks like hard work.  How in the heck does he pick up those huge pieces of lumber? I am glad you have your sewing projects to keep you busy so that you are not out there with him the whole time.  I know he has them sliced up into smaller logs, but still!  His back must still be in good shape to do the work of a YOUNG MAN's JOB.  He must love doing it You really have a pretty view from your deck, is the deck off of your kitchen or bedroom?  It appears so high up.  It still seems that you have more TALL trees amongst the pine trees.  Thanks for starting our Monday daily.

My husband trimmed a tree that was coming over the fence from our backyard neighbor.  The branches were growing into the CABLE wires.  Like you, it was too hot to do earlier this summer and Thursday was a good day to do the job.  He didn't get very far before a branch came down and scraped his leg.  It was a SMALL scrape but because he is on blood thinners, there was blood down his leg and filling his tennis shoe.  She wanted to cut the trunk down till it was even with the neighbor's fence, but I would not let him get near the chainsaw. Maybe our neighbors can cut the trunk down.  They were happy that we were trimming it from our side.

So, we did as much as we could do and it is better than what it was because it is what it is.  I kind of like that philosophy.

Another cold rainy day here.  Our furnace kicked on already this morning.

Here is a photo that I submitted for FLICKR's MACRO MONDAY CHALLENGE.  The topic was ZIG ZAG.
I made my dog some Bow Wow biscuits yesterday and used this rotary cutter to cut the dough into small pieces before baking them in the oven.
I think I could have used part of this image for the WHAT IS IT thread.

Have a good start to your week.
LORELL

Patty and Lorell, great shots!! Sorry, been more than a little busy of late.

Two versions of this image. I think I like the color one better, my wife says the B&W. Click on link below photos for larger versions.

Thanks for starting the Daily, damar. Lorell is right - that looks like a lot of hard work.

Lorell, that's pretty nice. The silver/white works well against the medium value brown, and the sharpness of the top of the cutter really makes it pop.

Michael, I too prefer the color version. Good image. Fire hydrants are fun subjects - I've taken my share of photos of them.

I was disheartened that we had no weekend Daily. With 20/20 hindsight, I wish I had started one even without a photo to share.

Still trying to get back to feeling 100% "normal" - whatever that is. But I managed a couple of photos on today's morning walk. Nothing new or special, but since some like the Ketchup & Mustard roses as much as I do, here's one of today's shots...

Seeing as we are having a colourful day, here's some Aussie green and gold.

and some twining glycine.

RE: Monday 26 September 2022 - damar - 09-27-2022

Thanks, all!
Lorell, the deck is on the back of the house which is above grade because the house is set on a slope.
So the deck is about 15' off the ground (patio underneath)
The back is the where the basement day-lights out onto the patio.
Hard to explain!
DH is able to roll the cut sections of the logs over to the splitter. these are just the top part of the tree; the lower trunk is huge.
He loves cutting wood. Wish we had all this oak when we were heating with just wood.
I like your dough cutter shot!
I have one of those too...an Italian thing? LOL

Hi Michael!
I too, prefer the classic red fire hydrant!
The blue flange is a nice touch!

Dave, I hope you are feeling better. Good that you are still keeping up with your walks too.
Pretty rose photo!

Hi MFIB,
Wow, nice burst of green and gold! Interesting leaf and blossom.
The vining glycine looks a bit like orchid.

I'm going to have to go dig something out of the archive's.

Patty, your little tractors look brand new! I can't believe how old they are!! Lots of hard work cutting and chopping wood. We had a woodstove as our main heat from 1973 to 1990, cut trees in our woods and did all the manual labor to get firewood for the winter. I don't miss it one bit!! But I can say nothing as warm and cozy as a wood fire. You should be good to go....Although, if those are leland cypress, not the best for fireplaces, too much pine tar!! AH, I see they are oak, you said!! Oak is the best heat!!

Lorell, glad you and your neighbors aren't feuding over that tree! Sorry about hurting his leg....don't let it get infected!! About your vintage tool....most places call it a pie crimper, but I'll be darned if I can figure out how to crimp a pie with one...I have one, too. Cutting your doggie biscuits with it is more reasonable!! LOL! Nice selective focus!!

Michael....I like them both equally, I think.

Dave, still a pretty rose! Nice capture! Hope you feel better. Wish I could go for a walk, but my back bothers me to walk.

Peter, that's a nice, bright yellow!! And the purple ones look like sweet pea blossoms, and they even produce pods like peas do....funny!

RE: Monday 26 September 2022 - Man From Ironbark - 09-27-2022

The twining glycine is a member of fabaceae which makes it a pea or bean. Naturaly a legume, capable of fixing nitrogen and supplies valuable nectar and pollen to native insects. Flowers all year mainly in spring. Found only in Australia. proper name Glycine clandestina.

The wattle is the Australian floral emblem and the colours we use for our sporting teams.
