  Weekend Nov 04/05 2023

From way back in 2012, according to the EXIF data. I haven't positively identified this bird, but possibly a Say's Phoebe...

I wish you all a pleasant, productive, and safe weekend.

The club had a good turnout last night, twelve members attended the indoor shoot with a variety of setups.  I got a lot of compliments on my white box and I provided them with about five setups.  I had so much stuff that four people helped me carry out all of my boxes, bags and white box.  I was a little busy changing from one set up to another and I wish I had more time to walk around and photograph what others brought. I did get around, but I rushed myself and didn't take time to look at my camera settings, compose my pictures, and do the other things needed to make for a good image.

There were some good ideas though and below is one of them.  It was a easy prep, just grab a string of lights and warp it around a cheese grater and here is what you get:

Have a great Friday all,
LORELL

I took many photos with my phone camera as I soon found out that juggling my camera and cane ( hip replacement ) was a chore. We did walk quite a bit and took the cane to use when my hip started to get weak. By the end of the trip I didn't use it much.

Here is Carrie Underwood at the Grand Ole Opry and the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, MO. We were on our way back home. The arch is amazing. Went to the top riding a tram on the inside. Quite a feat. It is 630 feet high.. Baseball field is the home of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Well geez, we cannot start the month off without a daily, right?

Happy November all and wishing you a month filled with blessings.

Tomorrow are photo club is getting together for an INDOOR photo shoot.
We are planning on bringing things that we could use to set up a still life, demonstrate a cool and interesting special effects technique or photo lamps, backdrops, etc.

I volunteered to bring in some things for set-ups as well as my WHITE BOX.  I made a white box about ten years ago by cutting the sides out of a GORDON FOOD's box and then cutting three windows in it, 2-sides and a top, and filling the windows with tissue paper. The box has been outside in the wind, on the front porch, in the basement, etc.  It had seen better days and when I looked at its condition, I knew that I had to build a new one. I bought some extra strong foam board, some thin interfacing (used for sewing), and some WHITE DUCT tape. All together it was about $19.  I finished the project yesterday and am proud of how it came out. I have enough lights I think to illuminate it, I am going to see how it looks later this evening after the sun goes down.  But I did a little practice using the sun coming in from the front window and one exterior light overhead.  I have additional lights that I will try later.   I got the idea regarding using the white foam board from a YOU TUBE VIDEO.  I also have a white poster board along the bottom and backside fo the interior so that you do not see any seams in the the back.

  November challenge: Full colour

Apparently, it is November already, for me.
and after looking at this I thought well that's a challenge. Find photos or go out and attempt to find an image full of colours?

Well, the weather is set to really change here. It has been so nice for the past couple of weeks, but colder weather is on the way. Forecast 38F tonight and 34F tomorrow night. I'm glad that I have already winterized the camper. But of course, it being Georgia, it is warming back up later on the 70's in the day and mid 50's at night. Smile

Today's task is to get a new phone. My current phone is pretty old and showing its age. I went by Verizon twice yesterday but the wait was so long that I left both times. Plan is to go to a different, smaller Verizon store today to see if I can get someone to help without waiting 30 or 40 minutes. But, I plan to stay as long as it takes and walk out with a new phone. The camera on the model I am going to get is supposed to be awesome, as well as the video capability. We the trips coming up I am sure I will be using it a lot in addition to my bigger cameras.

Again, nothing new photo wise, but here is a B&W from my archives. I think this was taken at Old Car City. Almost abstract.

Last Monday in this month. Another year will soon be gone...

Had a bit of drama yesterday when I went to pick up my photos from the Artist Guild exhibition. The original entry form indicated the art work was to be picked up on 29 Oct from 12 until 3. I knew the library didn't open until 1:30 on Sun but figured they had made special arrangements for the pickup. So DW and I (and several other CAG members) show up at 12, no one there. Library closed. After a few phone calls we find out the time for pickup had been changed to the previous day, Saturday. Apparently the word did not get out to everyone. So, today I have to call the branch manager to arrange a pickup, as do all the other members who did not "get the word". Oh, and the entry form says there will be a $35 storage fee if the artwork is not picked up. So this could be interesting if the library tries to charge us for the "missed date". Grrr.  And no, I will not be renewing my membership for next year. I can sort of understand changing the date and time, but they did not do a good job of making sure everyone got the word. Good way to start the week.

So, I hope others had a better Sunday than I did and have a great week ahead.

I did upload more photos to my Flickr account this morning and will likely upgrade to the Pro version soon.

As an example of my photo book Visions, here is a link where you can preview all of the content. As you will see (if you go to the page) it is a lot of nature stuff but also a mix of other subjects, such as some street photography. I'm also sure you will recognize many of the photos as I have shown several of them on here.

Good morning all. Not a good night for me, up very early (before 4 AM). Pretty sure a nap will be called for later.

Once more into the archives. A couple more photos from Sicily, these taken at a little place that was right across the road from the base. Long since gone I suppose as I looked on Google maps a while back and the entire area looks very different. My buddy and I would often go across the road, have some Lambrusco (wine), then catch the bus to go to downtown Catania. Those were the days...

Friday!!!

Nothing new this morning so I reached way back into the archives to pull up a couple of images from Naples, Italy (1998). I was there on military duty. I think I was using a Canon point and shoot. Pretty poor quality images. First is a hotdog stand in downtown Naples, the second is a photo taken in Sorrento, located a few miles south of Naples along the Amalfi coast. The Amalfi coast is one of the most beautiful places on earth in my opinion.
