Yesterday the weather conditions started building for our next, powerful storm: rain to start that afternoon and forecast to last until around noon on Wednesday (and possibly include brief thunderstorms). And that is for my area along the coast - other areas NW, north, and NE of me will have it worse. There are numerous mandatory evacuations, with destructive and life-threatening flooding quite possible in some unlucky areas.
{Edited to add]
And wind gusts have been incredibly high; the National Weather Service has reported maximum wind gusts in different areas of 90 mph, 98 mph, 99 mph and 102 mph. The NWS considers frequent wind gusts that exceed 58 mph pose "... an extreme threat to life and property..."
Scary conditions for those in areas that are hardest hit.
But the early morning build-up created an especially intense sunrise...
I’ve been having a lot of fun over the past couple of weeks. For the camera club, we have to do a series of 6 to 10 images of some topic of our own choice. The various series will be displayed at our Gala evening in December.
I’ve decided that my Topic is “Dutch Windmills: As they might have been visualized by artists”. So, I’ve prepared 10 painterly images. They may need a bit of touching up here and there, but basically I about completed the year’s work!
While I was about it, I decided to frame each image using a “Dave Type” frame. Thanks Dave.
Anyway, one of the digital painterly effects that I have never managed to do successfully, is the palette-knife look. In the past, the my most likely candidate was based on Fotosketcher’s Emergence drawing parameter; but that wasn’t quite there.
This time I decided to have another go at using the PS Art History Brush, together with some impasto brushes, which I think I got from Tim Shelbourne years ago. I used the same method as I do with my Watercolour images, with underpainting, medium detail, and fine detail layers. Ultimately, I made an Emboss layer, and overlaid that using the Hard Mix blending mode.
Anyway, it works reasonably well. Below is the current state of play.
I think that I will probably have another go at this image, knowing what I do now!
My area will have rain over 5 of the next 6 days; probably the heaviest today will be about the I embark on my early morning walk.
No new photos, so I took a ride in the Way Back Machine to June of 2017. I don't remember where I took this photo, but if I remember the conditions, it was one of those days with a uniform hazy sky that allowed moderate to bright brightness through that is often ideal for photos of flora.
Hi, all. Been a while. It's been a long year for me.....I'll try to poke my nose in and occasionally post.....hope all are well....?
I haven't taken out the cameras in a long while...... but the other day I looked out the window and saw a bird I have been trying to take a photo for a long time, the pileated woodpecker. He was right there, but I was afraid he would fly off while I ran to find a camera, find a memory stick, find a batter that had a charge.....and run back to the window. He was still there, and I got one decent shot through the glass before he flew off. I was thrilled to add this bird to my bird files.
Good day, gents.
Well, it wasn't meant to be, I guess.
It was a totally different game in the second half for the Lions. It is too bad, you could feel a breeze last night after the game when all of the hopes and wishes for a trip to the SUPER BOWL were deflated.
Thanks for rooting for them, Dave. Regarding your cool shot yesterday of the unusual cloud formation, did you find out anything about it?
Rich, I sure do like the photos that you shared in our weekend thread. I bet your historical society appreciates them.
In a few days, I will hopefully be getting more shots like this one, but better, starting on Feb 1st.
Our journey starts tomorrow.
Hey there.
I have been busy going out with friends for lunch and packing.
I took a ride to one of our camera club's members who announced at the last meeting that he was selling one of his camera bags. I needed something to carry all of my equipment on our trips, so I decided to check it out.
I am very happy with my purchase. I should be able to get all of my equipment comfortably and safely packed into this backpack-style bag. He said that he only used it twice. That is probably why it looks brand new.
Time to see how well this back pack works.
I was cleaning up some files and came across this photo.
Here's a little bit of grunge to start the weekend thread.
