Wednesday, February 7, 2024 - Dave - 02-07-2024 Happy Hump Day. A powerful yet calming sunset from April 2018... I hope the week is going well for everyone. RE: Wednesday, February 7, 2024 - Rich - 02-07-2024 Dave, you get some powerful skies in SoCal! Beautiful! Here is a sculpture called Fighting Stallions. This was carved by the founder of Crazy Horse Monument in the Black Hills Korczak Ziolkowski. I added the cloud background as that view was of the parking lot and entrance. RE: Wednesday, February 7, 2024 - Luv2shoot - 02-07-2024 Hey guys. Rich, that is an impressive carving. I am assuming that it is quite large and wonder what type of tree was used for this beautiful piece of work. It is nice to see something, such as this, to be a realistic representation rather than some sort of abract that you have to read the plaque to learn the intentions of the artist. Don't get me wrong, I love abstracts, but they have their place. Your clouds add nice drama and maybe if they were a little softer, you could've convinced me that they were real. Dave, your clouds look a little calmer but still looks like they are bringing some storms. The color is dramatic. I hope your days are improving and the storms are moving out. After going out to lunch, I mustered up enough energy for a little walk. The last photos I took were right there on the fence going up to our beach house. I found this "maybe Lichen" growing on the white PVC-type fence outside our house. I thought it was very pretty, Snowflake/sand dollar-like shape, and teal coloring. Maybe Peter would like to identify it. RE: Wednesday, February 7, 2024 - Man From Ironbark - 02-07-2024 It does look to be lichen yes. I don't know the actual species though. It also appears to b peeling off. Maybe it doesn't like the pvc after all. I have an album on my flickr: Lichens and Moss, ferns and fern allies. if you care to look. It only has 124 photos in it. Great sunset Dave I have an album called Ends and beginnings with all that in it. Though there are 474 photos to get through there.Nice way you presented the carving there Rich. Though realistic they also have a touch of the abstract. Here's a lichen I actually caught flowering(if that's probably not the right word for it). º¡º is watching.
RE: Wednesday, February 7, 2024 - Dave - 02-08-2024 Rich, that is a wonderful carving; so much energy. And a very fine image you created. Excellent job on the sky replacement. Hi Lorell. The last of the rain from this round of storms ended an hour or so ago. Forecasts indicate we should be rain-free for nearly 2 weeks. I like your lichen image; it's the kind I enjoy trying to produce: an unlikely subject presented simply and effectively. Nice one, MFI. I applaud you for capturing the colors so well. It sounds like lichens rarely flower; is that correct? RE: Wednesday, February 7, 2024 - Man From Ironbark - 02-08-2024 True. They rarely fruit unless the conditions are ideal. https://lichenportal.org/portal/taxa/index.php?taxon=56378&clid=1073 RE: Wednesday, February 7, 2024 - Rich - 02-08-2024 Lorell, thanks! They are real clouds. I used to shoot photos of clouds and use them to punch up a dull sky. They are a little saturated though as you poimted out, thanks! Interesting lichen shot! Thanks Peter, The background out of focus lichen reminds me of a lava flow! Thanks Dave! Glad the storm is over and all OK at your location. RE: Wednesday, February 7, 2024 - Dreamin - 02-12-2024 That really is a rich sky, Dave! I like your placing the horizon low. That is a powerful horse sculpture, Rich. How big is it? I agree with Lorell, the sky is to saturated to look real....but a nice manip/cut out ..... Lorell, I have that lichen all over....on my car, on my roof, on trees, on gravestones! It is so pretty!! Not sure I ever saw it bloom, tho... Nice catch, Peter. |
