Monday, January 29, 2024 - Luv2shoot - 01-29-2024 Good day, gents. Well, it wasn't meant to be, I guess. It was a totally different game in the second half for the Lions. It is too bad, you could feel a breeze last night after the game when all of the hopes and wishes for a trip to the SUPER BOWL were deflated. Thanks for rooting for them, Dave. Regarding your cool shot yesterday of the unusual cloud formation, did you find out anything about it? Rich, I sure do like the photos that you shared in our weekend thread. I bet your historical society appreciates them. In a few days, I will hopefully be getting more shots like this one, but better, starting on Feb 1st. Our journey starts tomorrow. LORELL RE: Monday, January 29, 2024 - Rich - 01-29-2024 Thanks Lorell! What a dynamite shot this is! The sun behind the clouds with the streaks, the trio of gulls, odd number always better than even and the subdude wave action! Lucky you to be going to a warmer climate! Have fun in the sun! I'm jealous! RE: Monday, January 29, 2024 - Man From Ironbark - 01-30-2024 I often wish I lived by the sea for the great sunrises or sunsets, depending on which coast. Yours is a cracker there Lorell. ![]() As for Dave's sky, I believe it is contrails from jets that have been disturbed by high winds. I do see similar sights often here because I am directly under the routes between Cairns and Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide, Sydney and Perth. Maybe also many other international flights. RE: Monday, January 29, 2024 - Adamphotoman - 01-30-2024 Lorell, It has all been said. Wonderful image! RE: Monday, January 29, 2024 - Dave - 01-31-2024 Lorell, I agree with everything the esteemed gentleman said. That's a terrific image. To answer your question - no, I could find no reports of a SoCal launch that would explain what I saw in the eastern sky. Well, it's that time of year - preparing my income tax returns. We bought and I installed the right version of Turbo Tax, about half of the forms from our banks and investment companies have arrived, I've started gathering receipts for some allowed deductions and credits. I don't enjoy preparing our tax returns: it usually takes 30 to 50 hours over three weeks. We have more rain ahead of us in SoCal. Steady rain will start early Thursday morning (a couple of hours earlier and much heavier north and northeast of me) and continue through early Friday morning. We get a break on Saturday, then another round lasting for 6 days! Depending on how heavy and steady it rains, some areas north and inland could face some serious and dangerous flooding. Fortunately for me, Huntington Beach rarely suffers damaging flooding. I'm not sure of the track as these two systems move eastward, but some of you may be affected. So be prepared and stay safe. Lorell, it looks like you'll be down south before this round of bad weather reaches the Midwest. But Florida may be in for rain by Feb 4 and 5. |
