I mentioned that I have another photo of the same hummingbird in the same nest as the one I posted a couple of days ago. Like that photo, this one was nearly full black out of the caners.

I applied the same processing methods: brightening the image a lot, tweaking temperature, adjusting colors, and sharpening. It turned out better than I expected...

In an effort to break out of my "dark background, light subject" pattern I've been trying to consciously look for chances to take lighter and brighter photos. Here's one from May 6 that didn't avoid the dark background, but at least has a lighter subject...

Happy Hump Day.

Good day, all.

A shot taken two mornings ago of a pretty flower that I haven't identified yet...

A few weeks ago I announced that for the second time a hummingbird was building a nest in a plant under our front eaves. I added that it will be very hard to get photos because height and location of the nest. That has turned out to be true.

Yesterday I took a couple of shots of the Mama hummer (I'm calling her Annabel, because she is an Anna's Hummingbird.) in the nest incubating one or two eggs. I wasn't expecting the photos to be very good because I had to use a very slow shutter speed since the nest was in a dark area under the eaves.

Here is what the camera captured...

But I decided to give processing a try anyway. I was very surprised and pleased that my processed image (cropped, brightened a lot, and sharpened a little) far exceeded my expectations...

Greetings All! A hot day yesterday for May, in the 90's. Cold front came through and now in the 60's.
These photos show a replica of the boats used by Lewis and Clark on their exploration up the Missouri River. This is a museum at Sioux City Iowa. They did use poles to manually power the boat. Looking at the deck, the cross wood bars across the deck is for traction when using poles. Very interesting museum.

TGIF, everyone.

A yellow rose (my favorite color for a rose) taken on yesterday morning's walk...

The usual marine layer this time of year (called May gray here in SoCal) produced nice diffuse light that seemed to heighten the colors of the local flore.

I hope we all have a great weekend.

Leica makes this Polaroid type camera called the Sofort2. The cool thing about this camera is that it saves these small JPEG files, instead of just printing out the photograph.

This guy came rolling into the cigar shop I was at on an old Knucklehead Harley-Davidson. Saddle bags were worn and a bedroll was on the back bar. He looked as though he has traveled back and forth across the country for years. I just pulled the camera and took the shot. Gave him the print and later on kicked myself for not getting one of the bike also.

For those of you that love info, since this is the first time for the Sofort2:

Size - 1.2 MB
Focal Length - 2.4mm
Shutter - 1/30 sec
Aperture f/2.0
ASA - 250

Good day, friends.

My morning walk today was under a moderately thick marine layer and that softened and diffused the light a bit, producing a pleasing effect on photos.

Here's one: I tried three different crops and did relatively little processing - just slightly brightening the entire image, adding a bit more brightness, to the blossoms, applying a touch of increased color saturation (mainly to boot the reds about 10%), and a varying touch of sharpenning to some of the blossoms...

Welcome to the weekend. Should be a nice day here today with the rain gone and sun shining.

Saw this radiator in one of the historic buildings we visited on our trip. Interesting detail.

Nasty weather last night and this morning. We got almost 3.5 inches of rain but seems the worst has passed. Tomorrow promises to be nice so planning a motorcycle ride. Having been on it since before our trip.
