Another Car show. Our car club, 301 Rodz, keeps busy in the summer. Once a week. Some different cars each time. Here is the 1914 METZ! https://rmsothebys.com/auctions/hf19/lot...-roadster/

Happy Hump Day!

Ron's once flourishing roses are struggling mightily due to a mix of neglect and incompetence. This saddens me, but also makes me appreciate the occasional hardy blossom that beats the odds and thrives for a short time; this sun-dappled was photographed 2 weeks ago...

Edited to add my thoughts on yesterday's women's soccer Olympic matches...

USA (ranked #5) beat Germany (ranked #4) 1-0 in added extra time to advance to the Gold Medal match against Brazil. That's the good news. But I am concerned about their style of play in the last 2 matches: way too much passing back and not enough moving forward.

As indicated, Brazil (world ranked #9) advanced to the Gold Medal match by upsetting Spain (ranked #1) 4-2. IMO this was a huge upset, and I congratulate the Brazilian team. And I am glad that Brazil's legendary striker Marta has a chance to end her long career with a Gold Medal (she received a red card in an earlier match against Spain so was banned for 2 games but is eligible to play in the Gold Medal match).

Greetings all!
I thought the top covering on this looked like a Hearse! A little too small for a casket though!

Good morning all.

Before we get the weekender started, just a short bit about the "state of the forum". Kudos to Dave, Peter and Rich for pretty much keeping the forum alive. It appears that we have lost Patty since she hasn't posted in a year or so, and even Lorell hasn't posted for a month. It's been a year as well for Desert Darlene, but she has only posted 6 times since she joined. The rest of us at least get on occasionally. And so we trudge along.

I had hoped to take a trip down to the panhandle of Florida on my trike next week, but our dishwasher died so I have to hang around to take delivery next Wed and then get it installed. Today's task is to remove the broken dishwasher, which I am sure will be "fun". It has been a good one though, lasting over 30 years.

It is August and there hasn't been a post here yet.
I'd say that avians or birds of a feather could be interesting. I'm starting with waterbirds of wetlands but if you have bird photos please post them.
This is a local wetland among other local wetlands but this is basically in my backyard, since it is only 500 metres from it. As the crow flies.
These black swans are Australian natives. It is clear that they have hatched out a new flock of swans, er; cygnets. I managed to get a couple of shots of this nursery herding.

We had the annual Pre-Sturgis Party last evening. A stop for bikers going to the Sturgis Rally. Quite a big deal for us. Here are a couple of photos. They were just getting started. I have a short video I will post on my Youtube channel when I get it processed.

Hello all.

Another taken on July 4 2024...

It was the clean colors and the various shapes & forms that caught  my interest.

I enjoyed the women's soccer yesterday. My thoughts on the group play and my projections follow/

In Group play, several teams didn't live up to their World Rankings: France sure didn't play like #2; Spain won all 3 group games but didn't the way World $1 should have.

I think USA played better than their #5 ranking. Canada (#8) had to win all 3 group games for a slim chance of advancing after having 6 points deducted for their cheating scandal, but they managed to advance.

Colombia (#22) made it to the quarter finals by overachieving (lost by just one goal to both France and Canada.

Australia tried gamely but just missed advancing (sorry MFI).

So in the quarter finals we have:
  MATCH 19  #2 France vs #9 Brazil
I pick France, but give Brazil a 30% chance to win.

  MATCH 20  #5 USA vs #7 Japan
I pick USA, but Japan gives USA trouble (hustle and swarming defense)

  MATCH 21  #1 Spain vs #22 Colombia
I pick Spain #1 vs #22 means Colombia's fine tournament ends

  MATCH 22  #4 Canada vs $4 Germany
I pick Canada because they are playing better, but I hope I'm wrong because cheaters shouldn't prosper

If my picks above are right we have in the semi finals:
MATCH 23  MATCH 21 winner (Spain) vs MATCH 19 winner (France)
I pick Spain because France has not played up to their ranking.

MATCH 24  MATCH 20 winner (USA) vs MATCH 22 winner (Canada)
I pick USA in a tough, physical game.

  Bronze Medal match:
MATCH 23 loser (France) vs MATCH 24 loser (Germany)
I pick France because it;s time then to play like World #2

  Gold Medal match:
MATCH 23 winner (Spain) vs MATCH 24 winner (USA)
I pick USA because they've played the best, and because of speed and talent of their young stars

Good day folks.

Here's a ladybug taken 3 weeks ago and processed early this morning...

I've been enjoying the Olympics; it has given me a chance to watch sports I seldom see (rugby has been a treat to watch. But I confess that I'm not a fan of all the events: synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics come to mind. And skateboarding and break dancing in the Olympics? That's ludicrous. Meanwhile I've missed seeing some favorites like table tennis and free-style wrestling.

The grandson of an acquaintance (a local artist and former president of the Huntington Beach Art League) made the US diving team.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow's women's soccer matches which will determine which teams advance out of group play. The competition so far has brought some surprises, disappointments, overachievers, and the regrettable cheating scandal by one country.

You all have yourselves a good day or evening.

Well, I'm about 60% back, using my old computer which has stopped overheating since temps have cooled recently. But I still can't get the new PC to recognize my monitor.

Anyway, here's a shot taken 3 weeks ago - one of the roses from late neighbor Ron that keeps surviving...

I wish us all a good week.
