Another Western Fence Lizard, taken 2 days ago.

The tails usually make up more than half of the total body length; this one appears to be regrowing its tail.

When threatened by a predator or even when merely startled, these lizards can detach the tail, leaving it to twist and writhe. Meanwhile the lizard has a chance to scurry to safety.

A California Fence Lizard I noticed while on a walk yesterday.

The blue throat patch is an adaption - maybe to intimidate male rivals, to attract females, or both.

Good morning all - hope you have some fun plans for the weekend. I was awake very early this morning and finally got up a little after 4 AM. I'll probably take a spin on the trike a bit later as the weather is pretty good. Already almost 60F and not even 5 AM. The weather forecast for both Prague and Budapest is looking good as well with mild temps and sunny days. Hope that holds.

Here are a few images from my recent trip to Texas, taken with the Lumix P&S.

Friday afternoon here.

What's to see in this image?

Not much? well, looking under those two bushes were...

and

They are Spotted Nightjars.

First time for you?
for me as well.
This explains some of the weird sounds heard at night.

Would not have seen them at all had not I had a bloke 20 years younger walking in front.
He wouldn't have seen them either had he not startled one.

I photographed that one out in the light before we walked back to the ute and waited.

The startled one went back to where it was. Out in the sunlight was not where it wanted to be.
We walked around them and walked up the very rocky hill following the now dry creek bed for a while.

Then on the way back they were still there.
A once in a lifetime experience for me. I doubt I'll be able to walk in such places by the next time I get so lucky, since it took 71 years for the first time.

Good day or evening.

Yesterday's sunrise, taken from the sidewalk in front of my house...

You all have yourselves a good day or night.

Happy Hump Day.

A photo taken yesterday of a flower in the front yard. It's mediocre in most aspects, but maybe the fact that it's very soft except for the nearest petals gives it a little interest.

Good day, all.
Last week was photo club meeting week so I have several photos I can use to pop in on all of you.

Let's start with one from Anna Maria Island.

Happy weekend everyone!
Nothing like a 55' Chevy to get my heart started!
Interesting the bright sun changed the color of the hood!

Good afternoon all. A bit chilly here now in Georgia, about 48F this morning. Once it got above 60 I took the Spyder out for a spin. I'm going to install an outlet on the carport so that I can plug smart chargers in for both the Spyder and the motorcycle. Should keep the battery from going flat.

So, two weeks from today we will be flying to Prague via Amsterdam for a river cruise from Budapest back to Amsterdam. We have a few days in Prague before the cruise and a few days in Amsterdam after the cruise. I am probably just going to take my P&S with me but it seems to do a pretty good job with travel photos so it should be fine.

Here is another shot of one of the performers at the festival.

Good day, friends.

Here's a tall desert plant taken this morning just as the rising sun cleared the rooftops to the east and bathed the scene in intense low light.

It's not natural to my location near the coast, but common in, I believe, the low desert 30 or 40  miles east of me.
