Monday, Monday...

Here's a shot of a great Egret, taken 10-1/2 years ago at the Bolsa Chica Wetlands Ecological Preserve and just newly processed...

I wish you and me a good week.

Good day , friends.

No new photos worth sharing, so here's an older one taken nearly 3.5 years ago...

Pippin, our second Westie, looking like he's playing Hide & Seek. Probably just a short time before he went to doggie heaven.

Welcome to the weekend. I hope it turns out a good one for us all.

Nothing new to share, so here's an oldie of a Monarch resting on a dried flower in our front yard...

Just something I noticed while changing the oil and running the motor. It takes a bit to focus on but when it does come in to focus, is an interesting phenomenon.

Was a little tricky to fix but got it done. Smile

Happy Hump Day.

I haven't taken many photos recently, but on today's first walk I spotted this budding yellow rose emerging into the early morning light...

I got lucky that my camera settings were about right for the shot - didn't need to do any darkening of the background and  lightened the yellows of the emerging petals just a little.

Well, Friday is almost over for me.

This is known as either or both; White rumped miner, Yellow throated miner. It was one of the birds feeding in a Kooba wattle that hangs over my shed.
It seemed to take a short time out to simply enjoy the winter sun.

This is known as the Mallee ring-necked parrot, the other bird feeding in the same Kooba.

Good day, folks.

Going through my archives, I came across a photo from July 2021; one that I learned something from.

This hummer leaving the feeder in our inner front yard appears to be a female, or an Allen's. Since the Rufous are far more common here, I'm going with that.

Assuming I'm right that it's a female, what I learned is that females can display the iridescent throat patch - I was under the impression that only males do so.

Seems all is quiet on the western front.

Digging through photos from a couple of months back I wondered why I hadn't shared this one. Yes it is just a mushroom shot but I like it.

Well, it's past 10:00 am here and afternoon in most of the US, so I guess somebody should start a Daily.

Another photo of a flower taken last Monday...

This is Dietes grandiflora; it has several common names, some calling it an Iris, others a lily. No matter the name. I think it's a lovely blossom.

Another shot from my exhausting outing (several pretty steep hills) on Monday; yet another unidentified flower...

The city has done an exemplary job of preserving and expanding its parks.  At least 20 years ago the city created a dog park divided into two separate areas, one for large dogs and one for small ones. But the much larger areas up hills to the north were nothing more than wide areas of ugly, dried growth. Over the next few years they really expanded these unused areas by cutting down the invasive growth and planting trees and other flora. This continues, and now they even have an area where resident can plant what they choose to (subject to limitations, of course, to avoid invasive non-indigenous species. This is the kind of development I support: not more high density housing or homes only the wealthy can afford, but a natural environment that is free for anyone to enjoy.
