We have been blessed to observe new hummingbird youngsters; I believe for the 5th time.
We've followed the entire process, from nest building to egg laying to hatching, then the development of the nestlings independent lives. All have been Anna's Hummingbirds - the most common variety in my area.
Here's a shot (taken yesterday, 2025/06/02) barely showing the two most recent nestlings. I'm convinced the mother is the same one who raised two nestlings a month or so ago. She returned to the nest she used previously, repairing and strengthening it. Some how she intuitively understands and applies principles of engineering to make the nest as secure as possible. Notice how she positioned it to rest securely on 5 different small branches.
My wife bought a strawberry plant a week or so ago, and it sure has produced. One strawberry was 2 inches (5 cm) tall and at least 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) wide; so big that it wouldn't come close to fitting in the nearby hummingbird nest. Photo taken yesterday...
Have yourselves a safe, happy, and productive week.
Hello again.
Just got back from a nice lunch with a friend. I had a chicken fiesta bowl with rice, grilled onions and chicken, black beans, and grilled peppers. Boy was it good.
I did not bring back any photos because I didn't want to make you hungry.
However, I do have a photo for you from my fire station shoot.
This is another fish-eye foto.
Good day all,
Well, I got my chores done today. Just a minor job of cleaning the kitchen window from all the dirt and grime that stuck to it over the winter. It might not sound like much, but it was about a half-hour job by the time I finished cleaning the track and the area around the window. It looks much better now, even if it is an overcast day and rain is predicted.
Yesterday I spent HOURS weeding in the backyard. I was totally spent when I finished that. It sure takes a lot longer as we age to do things that we could get done in half the time years ago.
I have a few photos in addition to the fish eye FIRE HOUSE HOSES I posted last week. Here is one of them taken with a normal lens. I edited the composition to remove the white rack that the jacket was hanging up against, but decided it didn't look as good with it left in. My husband agreed. I did not think it was a fitting photo for Memorial Day, and my husband, having served in the military, agreed that Memorial Day was created to honor our fallen soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice in war.
I don't know about you, but the more I stared at this photo, the glassier my eyes got.
Well it is Friday afternoon of a rainy day for me.

Anyway, photos. That's what we are here for. Here's some tree trunks.
Good day all! Rainy for the last few days. I won't complain as we received very little snow or rain up to this point. We have been having fire hazard watches for quite a while.
Here is a photo from a foggy day in Door County Wisconsin. Looking out on Lake Michigan.
For the past few days we've had clear skies and strong early (06:30 - 07:00) morning sunlight. That really intensified the colors of flowers, including this group taken yesterday...
