Thu. June 26 2025 - Dave - 06-26-2025 Another shot from my exhausting outing (several pretty steep hills) on Monday; yet another unidentified flower... The city has done an exemplary job of preserving and expanding its parks. At least 20 years ago the city created a dog park divided into two separate areas, one for large dogs and one for small ones. But the much larger areas up hills to the north were nothing more than wide areas of ugly, dried growth. Over the next few years they really expanded these unused areas by cutting down the invasive growth and planting trees and other flora. This continues, and now they even have an area where resident can plant what they choose to (subject to limitations, of course, to avoid invasive non-indigenous species. This is the kind of development I support: not more high density housing or homes only the wealthy can afford, but a natural environment that is free for anyone to enjoy. RE: Thu. June 26 2025 - Man From Ironbark - 06-26-2025 Dave, flower looks like one of the orange trumpet vines. Nice against that background. Presumably because they are removing exotic weeds, it may be the American orange trumpet vine? Campsis radicans? and I added to Monday's thread. https://www.fotofriends.net/showthread.php?tid=1173&pid=10075#pid10075 RE: Thu. June 26 2025 - Dave - 06-27-2025 Thanks MFI. Yes, it does appear to be Trumpet Vine (Campsis radicans), and I am surprised that the city would intentionally plant such an aggressively invasive species. And my backyard is overrun with it. Not good because: 1) it is quite toxic, dangerous to hummingbirds, dogs, and other fauna and even hurtful to people; 2) it can damage houses; and 3) it is notoriously hard to eliminate once established. |
