Here's another from my archives (October of 2017). I probably posted it on WetCanvas, most likely in that site's version of the WhatIzIt? thread, but I doubt anyone here would remember it. Maybe I should post it in the WhatIzIt? thread here.

Anyway, I completely reworked it last night: a new crop, rotated, and several layers to tweak the values here and there. It kinda looks to me like an alien creature in a low budget SF movie or like one of the lurid cover illustrations found on early Sci-Fi books.

So far the Women's World Cup games have been rather low-scoring, but exciting nonetheless. And there have been a couple of results that surprised me. I'm looking forward to tonight (6:00 PM my time), when the USA has it's first game, against Vietnam. Should be an easy win to get the two-time defending champions off to a good start.

I forgot to add my prediction for the game. This is Vietnam's first trip to the WWC and their World ranking is #32 - not bad but several notches below the elite teams. They appear to have 2 or 3 very good attackers, so they might score against the USA. But the return of Ertz really strengthens the US defense. And I think Vietnam's defense will have trouble against the US offense. I'm calling it a US win by a score of 7 to 1.

Good morning.
well, here is the last photo I submitted for tonight's photo club meeting.
I took this while on a photo trip with the club in Downtown Detroit.
Our special assignment topic for this month was URBAN ANGLES. Care to count them?

I hope you are having a good week.
LORELL

PS photo coming soon

My daughter emailed that she had a pleasant flight to Auckland, that New Zealand's strict biosecurity procedures kept her at the airport for an additional 2-1/2 hours, then it took another hour for her to reach the Airbnb apartment. After all that I would have been exhausted, but she set off on a long walk to Mount Eden, past the University of Auckland and an old cemetery, getting some good photos along the way. (I had offered the use of one of my cameras, but she declined, being more comfortable using her cell phone.) She said she is pretty sore after the long walk up and down hills.

I'll ask her permission to share some of her photos over the 5-1/2 weeks of her grand vacation.

Meanwhile, here's a photo I took two mornings ago. I knew from past experience that getting good photos of red blossoms against green foliage would be a challenge because the reds and greens are often the same value. It took several layers during processing, and the photo still suffers from poor value contrast...

Happy Tuesday all,
Sorry that I have been away for so long.
I just didn't have anything new to share.
I passed up another Group shoot last week to the capital of our state, Lansing.  I was not in the mood to take photographs of the government buildings.  I understand it is quite an impressive building, but I do not see myself as having the skills to be able to capture buildings in the best way to represent them for grand they really are.  Truth be told, I find barns more interesting!

Okay, call me a party pooper.

This Thursday is group shoot and I a struggling to find something in my archives to submit for our meeting.
The topics are NATURE, URBAN ANGLES and VERY BEST.

Here is ONE of the photos that I dug up from 2019 for Nature.
I call it, "TAKE A BOW"

Have a good day.
LORELL

It's not quite Saturday for me, but it is for most of you, so I'm starting a Weekender before I catch some sleep.

Another oldie (June of 2023) here; it's some drought-resistant flowers from our front yard which I "Ortonized."

The softening and glow of the Orton effect seems to work best on images of the kinds commonly called Nature photography: flora and landscapes and seascapes.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

TGIF everyone!

A modest little shot of backlit leaves taken about an hour ago...

I wish a fun, healthy, and productive weekend to all of us.

Well, if nobody else is gonna start a Daily, I will.

Three recent photos of fence lizards:

1) Based on its size this appears to be a youngster. One of the few times I've seen fence lizards in my yard, I think because they prefer having a light colored horizontal surface to bask on and nearby growth for escaping any threats; our yard has neither.

2) This one is full grown - it's one of the largest I've seen.

3) This shot shows the blue throat patch that adult males have. Probably used to either attract females or intimidate rival males.

You may have noticed the variety of coloring. This may be related to the age of the lizard, but I suspect it's something they change in order to more effectively absorb heat from the sun and from light reflected off whatever light colored surface they are basking on.

Sorry I missed yesterday. The rest of the family (including Pippin) went to San Diego to visit my wife's Mom. She's in her mid-90s, healthy and mentally as sharp as can be - certainly sharper than I am.

So yesterday I made myself a list of 5 tasks to do; ran out of gas and then fell asleep, but before that managed to get 3 of them done.

In a Daily some weeks ago there was a brief discussion and some photos of birds in unusual positions, and I mentioned that I had several old ones. Finally found this one and reprocessed it earlier this morning - flipped it horizontally, recropped, tweaked the values and color intensity, and sharpened for posting.

It's a Great Egret at the Bolsa Chica Wetlands Ecological Preserve, taken somewhere between 15 and 25 years ago...

You all have yourselves a good day.

I have a long way to match Dave's prowess with flowers I 'm afraid.
