Hello there and how are you doing today?
Wow, what a difference a week makes. One week ago 11 members of our photo club were in Port Huron with skies like this and today it is overcast, cold and with mist coming from above. Sure glad that we got as lucky as we did so we could get images like this.
I tell you, living here in this area, there are so many opportunities for taking photographs, and thanks to my photo club, they make it possible for me to capture moments like this.
Here is one of several freighters travelling down the St. Clair River about to go under the Blue Water Bridge that connects us to Canada.
I am not bragging, but this looks really good on my screen as a background on my desktop.
This is one of many Wagenborg Shipping vessels from one fo the leading shipping companies in the world. The current position of FIVELBORG is reported 6 hours ago by AIS. The vessel is en route to the port of Torre Annunziata, Italy, sailing at a speed of 9.6 knots and expected to arrive there on Jun 5, 12:00. The vessel FIVELBORG (IMO: 9419307, MMSI 245466000) is a General Cargo Ship built in 2010 (13 years old) and currently sailing under the flag of Netherlands. It left Montreal Canada yesterday at 11:30 pm.
About time I put something here. This year I have ended up editing our camera club monthly newsletter. As part of the May edition, I produced this article.
Good Morning. Mornings are so much better after a good night's sleep, RIGHT?
And I made a major decision earning this morning and I feel less stress already!
I have decided that I will NOT have a garden this year! Yep, now that have taken up yet another hobby, quilting, that takes up a lot of my free time for Photography and other things, I do not need to PREP, DIG, PLANT, WEEK, WATER ($), etc., so that the damn squirrels can eat my cukes, zucchinis, and TOMATOES!
I spend hours of back-breaking work that would cost WAY MORE THAN A BUSHEL OF ROMA tomatoes and I really do not get that much satisfaction out of it. I still have the back grass to cut, flower gardens in the front yard, hedges in the front and backyard to weed and take care of, etc. It is just too time-consuming and now wears me out.
I know I will miss it. But I already feel a sense of relief. Hurray, Yippee, etc.
So, it may be ironic to post the first photo in this daily.
Yesterday, I stopped at a little market that sells a nice variety of Michigan produce and other Michigan packaged goods, jellies, popcorn, noodles, etc. They also have some beautiful hanging baskets. I needed one more photo for tonight's club meeting special assignment, "Signs of Spring", and I took this shot. I was also going to buy a hanging basket of flowers but unfortunately, the store was closed on Wednesdays. I wonder when they started that? SO, the only thing I came away with was this photo.
Have a good spring time (fall for you, Peter) day everyone.
LORELL
Well, while my Quiche Lorraine (ham, swiss cheese & green onion) is baking in the oven, I thought I would drop in and start the daily.
I had a good morning and now I can sit down and relax a little.
So, as mentioned yesterday, I planned on posting more shots from last weekend's photo trip with the club. The Third topic in the challenge was something RED, ROUGH (texture), or ROUND. It did not have to be all three. I found this in the Thomas Edison Museum. The lighting was so nice because of a window to the right of the apple. Natural light is so nice.
Have a good day, all.
LORELL
PS. I was also able to use another photo that took on Saturday (for OUR challenge inspired by DAVE) to add to the Monthly Challenge Thread.
Well, I am finally rested from this past weekend's trip to Port Huron, Michigan with the photo club and Mother's day celebration. It was a good weekend.
On Saturday's trip with the club to PORT HURON, we saw a lighthouse, a tiny museum (Thomas Edison), and the BLue Water Bridge and a BOAT LIGHTHOUSE that was turned into a museum. I always provide a scavenger hunt for the group. It is always optional if one wants to participate but since I LIKE GAMES, I enjoy going out for a shoot if in addition to the things we are looking at, I have to search for additional things that I might not have taken photos of but did so because of the scavenger hunt challenge. (phew, I need to take a breath after that long sentence) Most of the time, the things on the list are just OBJECTS, usually no more than FOUR, but sometimes they are techniques, like when we went to the orchid show. I shared that one with you about taking photos of FLOWERS through FLOWERS.
The three categories for this weekend's scavenger hunt were:
Something Nautical
Look Up 9thanks, Dave, your MAY challenge gave me this idea)
Something, RED, ROUGH, or ROUND
So, here is the image I chose for Something Nautical. I took a shot of this freighter coming down the St. Clair River. It was a pretty impressive ship, but the shot didn't do it justice. SO, I decided to turn it into a painting. I love SHIPS and TRAINS. We saw at least FOUR freighters going down the river on Saturday. They are HUGE and fairly close to where we stand on the shoreline watching them pass.
This ship is called the Kaministiqua. Have a terrific Tuesday. LORELL
PS. I do not know if you can open this link, but there are some pretty cool effects using PHOTOSHOP SHOP. It was shared with our club by one of our members.
I've been hoping Lorell would start a Daily to share some photos from her outing to Port Huron, but I guess she's st ill processing them.
The K-M (Ketchup and Mustard) rose bush at late friend Ron's former house seems to be deteriorating: most of the blossoms there now don't have that defining Red & Yellow color pattern; instead they are more and more becoming red & off white. Not sure why - maybe unplanned cross pollination without Ron there to nurture the plants properly. Here's the only healthy looking true K-M rose there last week...
Last week Don posted a bird in an unusual posture, and I mentioned that I have several shots of this type. Couldn't locate the ones I was thinking of, but I did stumble across this one of a colorful male Rufous Hummingbird taken in May of 2014 in our back yard...
He's perched on one of the long metal rods of a discarded tomato cage.
Hello and welcome to Friday's Daily.
I think I have another B&W for our club's meeting next Thursday.
I left the checkerboard colored to add a little distraction, interest, story, etc.
Does it work? You tell me.
Tomorrow I will be a on field trip with the photo club. We shall be gone all to take photos of lighthouses, freighters, museums, The BLUE WATER BRIDGE (connects USA and Canada), a boardwalk, and many other things in an all-day trip to Port Huron.
I probably won't be checking back in until Sunday.
Have a good rest of your day.
LORELL
Since it's past noon on the US east coast and no Daily yet I'll start one for us.
No recent photos to share. I took some shots on this morning's early walk but a preliminary look shows nothing special. So here's one from last week...
I started a May challenge but I'm not sure if the theme will generate much of interest.
