Good Morning.  Mornings are so much better after a good night's sleep, RIGHT?
And I made a major decision earning this morning and I feel less stress already!
I have decided that I will NOT have a garden this year!  Yep, now that have taken up yet another hobby, quilting, that takes up a lot of my free time for Photography and other things, I do not need to PREP, DIG, PLANT, WEEK, WATER ($), etc., so that the damn squirrels can eat my cukes, zucchinis, and TOMATOES!

I spend hours of back-breaking work that would cost WAY MORE THAN A BUSHEL OF ROMA tomatoes and I really do not get that much satisfaction out of it.  I still have the back grass to cut,  flower gardens in the front yard, hedges in the front and backyard to weed and take care of, etc.   It is just too time-consuming and now wears me out.

I know I will miss it.  But I already feel a sense of relief.  Hurray, Yippee, etc.

So, it may be ironic to post the first photo in this daily.
Yesterday, I stopped at a little market that sells a nice variety of Michigan produce and other Michigan packaged goods, jellies, popcorn, noodles, etc. They also have some beautiful hanging baskets.  I needed one more photo for tonight's club meeting special assignment, "Signs of Spring", and I took this shot.  I was also going to buy a hanging basket of flowers but unfortunately, the store was closed on Wednesdays.  I wonder when they started that?  SO, the only thing I came away with was this photo.

Have a good spring time (fall for you, Peter) day everyone.

Thanks for starting a Daily for us, Lorell.

And I really like your photo. The strong flower colors are somehow enhanced by the presence of the dappled light at the right edge, good value control in a challenging scene, and as always your composition is excellent - in this case the leading lines lead my eye into the photo where the soft background (intentionally blurred? and the top leading line takes me back to the front along the top row of baskets and those on the middle shelf. Nicely constructed composition.

I know what you mean about all the work of gardening that often doesn't produce a worthwhile harvest.

I took most of yesterday off; it would have been my Dad's 99the birthday. May 17 is always a bittersweet day for me. Missing my Dad even 25 years after he passed, smiling at some great memories, feeling bad for all the things I should have said to him and all the questions I should have asked, and very thankful for the lessons he taught me - not through words but through his actions, how he lived his life, how he treated people and how his actions always stayed true to his convictions on everything that was important to him.

This morning's early walk was under slightly overcast skies (here in Socal they refer to this season as May gray and June gloom) that produced a nicely diffuse light. I took lots of photos and did my usual triage to bring it down to around 30 that might be worth processing.

Here's one (again of Ron's surviving roses) that caught my eye because of how nice the burgundy looked against the yellow...

Good decision Lorell! Doing what you want to do without any pressure!

Well constructed photo, you have a great photographers eye!

Probably closed on Wed due to not enough employees. Seems to be a huge problem.

Dave, wonderful memories of your Dad! I like the humor of May and June in SoCal!

Beautiful color contrast! Just a personal opinion, I think I might crop out the left out of focus rose. Is a little distracting for me. Well framed!

Here is a shot from Boston. The Parker House Restaurant to the right is the birthplace of Boston Cream Pie, and Parker House Rolls.

Hi Rich, and thanks for commenting on my photo. You are right about the rose at the left being a bit distracting but you should have seen it before processing - the yellow was as saturated and vivid as the yellow flowers to the right. I knew I needed  to do something, and I saw three options: 1) cropping that distracting flower away, but I didn't like the resulting composition (although a close square crop wasn't too bad); cloning out the offending rose certainly would have worked; 3) I chose to desaturate that rose quite a bit (easier than cloning) to see if that was enough - obviously it wasn't.

Nice street photo. I would not have guessed Boston because I thought your photo had a European feel to it.

Thanks Dave, it does have a European feel to it!
I was thinking a square crop for your photo too.
