Today I have to go the local library where all of the artwork is on display to man a table, ostensibly to answer any questions folks viewing the artwork might have about that or the local artists guild. Two hours of fun... not. Things will be on display until the end of this month, then we have to collect our pieces. I remember the last time I entered I didn't win any prize, but the library liked one of my photos enough that they wanted to keep it on display for another year. At least that was something.
Another flower photo from the campground taken with the Lumix.
Post your photos of things that make you smile, and tell us why they bring a smile to your face.
All sorts of subjects are possible. Maybe a portrait of a beloved friend, relative, or pet; a peaceful sunset; a delicate flower; raindrops or dewdrops; funny signs; animals in humorous positions; inspiring landscapes; a favorite food; and lots more.
I like squirrels – they are brash, sassy, and impertinent. But I sometimes wish to see some in situations that squelch their cockiness. I manipulated this scene (taken about 15 years ago) to simulate high water and befuddle this particular tree rat...
Today I will be packing the motorcycle for a short ride up to a Corps of Engineer campground for an overnight stay, trying out my new tent. It is just a bit larger than the old one, and will allow me to actually stand up. If that works out OK I am hoping to take a bit longer trip next week up to Tennessee for some curvy, scenic back roads riding.
The annual local Artists' Guild awards were Saturday night and I did not win anything. Third place was a B&W print of a guy sitting on a railing... I thought it was good. Second place winner was a double or triple exposure, again very unlike a true to life photo. And first place looked so much like a painting that at first I thought is was when I first saw it. Another photo entry won an award in a different category, and it too was very "painterly". Of course all of the other categories were traditional mediums such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, sculpture, etc. And I am sure the judges were folks who worked in those rather than photography. All in all it was a good showing though with over 200 pieces of art on display.
Tonight is the awards presentation for the Artist Guild Member Exhibition. DW and I went by yesterday to check out the artwork. I submitted 2 pieces - there were about 15 other photos entered in the photography category. At least 10 of them (I thought) could easily take 1st or 2nd place. Tough competition. I thought I might have a shot but after looking at the others, probably not. Oh well.
Hello there,
Geez, time sure flies nowadays a days, right?
I cannot believe that it is the end of September already.
I have been busy with my sewing lately. My daughter and I have decided to do one more craft show in November so we have to get out stock built up. Unlike the first show we participated in in August where there were only about 15-20 people that attended the sale at the small church up north, this next one promises to be different. Last year the organizers claimed that there were 2,500 who attended. We are crossing our fingers and hoping that the customers like our goods. Until then, I will be busy trying to make an assortment of quilted items.
I will still try to keep up with my photography, though. I just worked on this photograph that I took at Stahl's Auto Museum last week. This ORGAN is huge and when I take its photo and get home and see it on the computer, it looks blah and uninteresting. So, I decided to crop the heck out of it, create an interesting angle, hopefully, and add some TOPAZ magic.
Okay, off to the sewing room I go,
Have a good rest of your day,
LORELL
Greetings all!
It's a great day In South Dakota!
Had a classic car show this past weekend. Many awesome cars entered.
Here is a 1928 Model A. I worked at the same place of employment as the owner. Haven't had a ride in it though!
