Hello All from Sunny Florida.
Well, actually today is the first day the sun is being shy and we have an overcast day.  I should be out there taking photographs of flowers right now, but decided I needed to drop in here to say hello and that all is going well.

As they say, "The weather is here.  Wish you were beautiful.
LORELL

Good morning all. Hope the weather is not too bad where you are. It is raining here but warm, as it was yesterday. A chance of storms today but nothing like some parts of the country here in the U.S. are getting.

We had new hardwood flooring installed Saturday and I had to take all of our "electronics" out of the entertainment center. Even though I had made diagrams of where it all went, it still was a chore getting it all back in. Also discovered that the stereo receiver no longer works. We never used it but when I was testing everything I discovered that. Pulled the cover and immediately saw that two of the capacitors were leaky. I considered repairing it myself but it looked like it would be quite a chore to remove the circuit board to get to them, but I might still try sometime in the future.

I loaded 7 sheet film holders (4x5) yesterday in preparation for a camping trip next week. I plan to shoot  both the pinhole and the Pressman, as well as other cameras. I'll have more photo stuff than clothes probably.

Hope to see a bit more activity today in here... right now I need to brave the rain and go check the rain gauge so I can get it logged.

Edit: 3.42 inches of rain from 7 AM yesterday until 7 AM this morning. Most we have gotten in one day in quite a while.

Good day, folks.

Yesterday I had a bit of light gardening to do. With my back acting up, I slowly and gingerly set about removing a succulent that had spread out, was covering part of the sidewalk, and seemed an irresistible spot for dogs to pee.

The slightly woody trunk was about 3-1/2 inches (about 9 cm) in diameter, but not too hard to saw thru. I planned to discard the large section I removed, so I tossed it next to the green bin. It turned out that the underside provided a subject worth a snap or two: surprisingly varied and strong colors, nice lines and shapes, a good mix of values in the lit and shadowed areas. Here's one image...

Many succulents are known to thrive and grow into a full plant if you simply push a small cutting down into the soil. So I decided to replant the biggest part elsewhere in the yard, which now gets lots of sunlight following the extreme trimming of our jacaranda. Seems worth trying.

Stay safe and happy, everyone.

Hi Everyone! Middle of the week joy to all!

This is from my archive

My Spinning Wheel

Dave: It's baking season!
I too have been cooking more than I normally do.
Trying new recipes, going back to some of my old classics and
using up supplies that need to be rotated out.
I have never made a fruit tart though!

Today is sunny after yesterdays Blizzard.
We took advantage of Sundays weather to drive to Saskatoon, see my dad, and to go to the Asian Hut where we had their lunch special. Pho soup and crunchy crispy Spring Rolls. Oh yeah these were from the cell phone....

For February the set subject at our camera club is “Silhouettes”. So, I have been working on silhouette images over the past couple of weeks.

Reading our set subject guidelines, I noted that silhouettes are supposed to have the dark portion being a flat homogeneous area without any detail. Looking on the web at many examples of artwork, I find that this is generally the case, and most definitions of silhouettes do mention a homogeneous flat area. However, my own work has led me to the conclusion that I far prefer photographic silhouettes to have some hint of texture in the dark area. Of course, it is much easier editing wise to stick to a flat dark area.

So, at the end of the day, all of the images that I plan to submit, have some hint of detail in the dark area. Attached is one of these titled “Photographer at Bogenfels Arch”.

The photo was taken at about 14:00 on a hazy day – there was no clear horizon line. I obviously enhanced the sky and darkened the arch. However, I found that it improved the image IMO to add back a hint of the arch’s texture, although the man and his immediate vicinity is certainly a flat dark area.

Morning all,

This isn't artistic or even pleasant to look at. Since Rich shot pictures of out of control fire, I thought I would show something different. When we moved 4 thousand Kilometers just over 6 months ago, We flew instead of driving across Covid country, so we needed a car. Unfortunately we did not have the luxury of time to research our choices.

Long story short we chose a 2020 Chevy Trax which proved to be a bad choice. It performed well until it got cold. The PCV valve freezes alowing oil to burn. So these are proof photos For Warranty.

The dealership said this was normal. I don't think so.

Good day, all.

Sounds like a severe winter storm is threatening the NE US. (Meanwhile, my thermometer just outside the front door and in the shade topped out yesterday at 80 F (27 C)).

So it was a sunny and warm day, and Pippin took advantage of it by soaking up the sun...

Hello Fhoto Friends.

I was AWOL yesterday; we began the first of several projects around the home, and I was busy arranging that and periodically keeping an eye on things.

This first project is trimming the large Jacaranda tree in the front yard. It was magnificent but overhung the full width of our roof and even a part of the neighbor's roof, dropping it's petals all over.

Photo #1: the inner yard. Lot's of debris that they need to clear out, and probably a few small instances of damage caused by the heavy falling limbs.

Photo #2: the outer yard. Buried under that pile of downed leafy limbs at center-right is a large ornamental grass - probably more damage here.

Photo #3: another look at the outer yard, this time from close to the street.

I have 2 more images, but it looks like I can post just 3; will do the last 2 in a response...

Photo #4: the outer yard from the opposite side. Several damaged plants near the orange cone.

Photo #5: the now bare tree. They trimmed far more than I asked, and it looks pretty stark. I hope it sprouts new leaves quickly.
