There are early signs that my spring/summer gardening efforts might be productive. All but two of the 12 sunflowers have sprouted; it's looking like we'll have 4 or 5 different varieties.
My 2 x 4 foot raised bed could be 80% successful: radishes are thriving, 3 or 4 different kinds of hot peppers coming along; I have two potted lemon cucumbers and two potted Black Krim tomatoes flowering, although a number of the leaves are yellowing, and that concerns me; another pot with still small seedlings of pear tomatoes; and 10-15 carrots have sprouted in a Home Depot bucket. My wife's berry plants are looking good, and several small pots of various herbs are doing well.
Good Morning All.
A severe thunderstorm came though last night. No damage here but might be out by the lake. Will check it our when I go to the Memorial Day Service at the cemetery.
First photo is the car show Saturday. Second is the American Legion part of the cemetery.
Greetings all.
Welcome to the weekend.
Let's do bright and cheerful.
We could all use some of that, right?
Let's see, Don, should be arriving in Texas hopefully soon.
Natalie, I think you should go buy that rose bush. Maybe your mom could look down from heaven and give it a little guidance.
Dave, The rose you shared yesterday was outstanding.
Grant, how is your dad doing?
Rich, do you have a parade happening in town this weekend. I got to check if we got one here. It has been cancelled for the last two years, of course.
Michael, You still thinking about a new topic for the challenge?
Peter, Hello friend,
Peter D. What's happening in your corner of the world
Patty, Hope you stop in and say "HI".
Steve, I am surprised that you already have suckers on your small tomato plants. Does that mean that I should start pruning mine this early? I got my plants yesterday. Do you put the pinched suckers in water to get them to grow roots?
Yesterday I bought:
Romas
San Marzanos
Jet Star
Beef Steaks
I know that the first two are perfect for Spaghetti Sauce. But I also wanted some with volume too, so I got the second two also. I read that BIG MAMA's are good for sauce, but I have never seen them in the nurseries where I shop.
AS the end of the month draws near, my brain has trouble remembering which photos I posted earlier this month. So forgive me if I repost some shots in the next few days. We will start with this one which my club members liked a lot at last week's meeting. I am so thankful for the photographic opportunities that our staff creates for us.
I know that this image is anything but spring-like, but I used to highlight the thrill and the fabulous scenes from one of the club's outings. This was one of my favorite club shoots ever even though it was a twelve-hour day and with extreme conditions. There were three of us who can now check off four lighthouses on the southwest coast of Michigan's shoreline from our bucket list. By the way, the black figure standing and taking a photograph of the lighthouse is our current president of our club.
Have a good day one and all.
I think I may do a little shopping today.
See you all later.
I have been busy getting ready for my Texas trip, and watching the forecast temps getting higher and higher. Fortunately I will be staying in an air conditioned RV if it gets too hot, and the evenings will be pleasant, which is when we do a lot of roaming around the campground. I need to do a little work on our in ground sprinkler system today as well. There is at least one sprinkler head I need to replace, probably more. DW has planted several flowers, pepper plants and tomato plants and the sprinkler does not quite reach the bed where they are, so I need to make sure they will get water. Typical home maintenance stuff.
Happy Friday. Got any plans for the weekend?
I am hoping that we will finally be going over to my daughter's house to celebrate mother's day. She is finally getting over the respiratory side effects from her episode with Covid three weeks ago!
My photo club meeting went well last evening. I rate it on how well my photos are received. I got quite a few "oh wows". I went home happy. I also go out to a nearby watering hole with the boys afterward and we had a good time there too.
Here is another photo that I shared last night from a visit to Stahl's auto museum. The item on the left is a carburetor, it is the base of a lamp that you can see the shade reflected in the window on the far left side. I grabbed this photo as I was leaving the museum. You never know what you will find there and it has been about six months since I last visited, so maybe it is time for a return trip.
