We had our local college Homecoming Parade last Saturday. I mostly shot video and here are a couple of stills from the video.

Thanks for starting the daily, Rich.
That is a sweet start to the parade with a lot of activity coming up from down main street. Look at the people smiling as DR DAN passes in from of them. He must be a favorite around there. I could not figure out if the little girl was crying or shrieking as she ran over to hug someone. I also noticed the tall temple-like structure in the background. Is that a mosque? The uniforms on the flag girls are really dated, but it must be a tradition. Looks like a nice size band. I am glad to see that programs such as music still thrive in many of the schools. It is so important. Tomorrow night is photo club night and so I had to grab a few more shots for "SHOW AND TELL". Our special assignment for this month is DIPTYCH. So far, I put this one together. I think I may make some minor adjustments, one will be to narrow the black line in between the two photos. Dave, Hey friend. I hope your back is better today. It sounds like it is really bad this time. Take care.

Looks like a great time, Rich. Love the colors in Mitchel, still one of my favorite places.
I am still messing around with the micro 4/3 camera medium format lens combo. That Bronica on the GX is a pain to nail focus. Love the colors and bokeh that come out of it, though. Lens is definitely softer than I have gotten used to, but, what a great vintage look. Nothing special here. Other than a bit of cropping everything is SOOC. ***Someone posted as I was What a great scene here. I miss Malt shops, and malts! Great capture!***![]() ![]()
Thanks Lorell! Dr Dan is the new President of the College. He came on board last summer.
The little girl was actually directing with the band music...cute! The background building is the Corn Palace. Forgot to mention the Theme for the Parade was Back to the Future and or 1980. I will post a link to my video if you are interested. The bands Competition gig is the twilight zone. the parents bought a plane for it as a flash back to that series. Cool DIPTYCH. I had to Google that one! Yes, I think a thinner center line is in order. Michael, good to see you my friend, thanks! Lovin' your viewpoint on common items! The last one especially. Here is the link to my video. Dave, just read about your back troubles! I feel for you. Hang in there, I know how rough it can be.

More fine images showcasing your city, Rich.
Thanks Lorell. Yes, this episode has been pretty tough – not quite the most intense pain I've experienced, but certainly among the most prolonged. But today has been better. In an earlier Daily you gave us some good tips about B&W images. I'd like to offer another tip related to black & white: I've often had color photos that - despite being well-composed, having an interesting subject, and also good sharpness and bokeh – just weren't working. Quite often temporarily converting to grayscale quickly reveals that the problem is with the values; for me it's usually a case of a too narrow range of values – not enough value contrast to create a strong COI. Sometimes this B&W conversion shows how to make the image at least somewhat successful; other times it tells me that the image can't be saved. Nice Diptych. I agree with your plan to make the heavy black areas smaller. If that doesn't do enough, maybe try something a little less stark than pure black. Good examples of how photos of simple common items can be effective. Thank you for your words of commiseration, Rich. Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him! Thanks Dave!
