Chickens have not laid an egg all week.....maybe they are too old?  Time to get some new chicks, I guess. We call them peeps!  This one is molting......

Never thought they quit laying but you could be right. Good capture! Sharp!

Here is one I had fun doing years ago. Using a white background and a glass of water I added drops of black ink. When a pattern emerged I fired the camera. Took into Photoshop and did an inverse, making black white and white black. Then flipped it  to get this image. Looks like a tulip to me.

Hello all.
We got home on Saturday and today it feels like I am finally recovered from the drive back.
We had one awful day of rain as we drove through Georgia.  My poor DH, all that rain and spray from the trucks made the day grueling.  However, we had no SNOW to contend with, so it could have been worse. It is good to be home though, real good.

I apologize for being MIA for so long.  I did not take many photos because of hosting company for so many days, the weather was cold and windy, and there wasn't anything new to take photos of.

But I am back now and will hopefully get my mojo back.

Hi, Natalie.
I have a niece in Michigan's upper peninsula, she is around 8 now.  She started with 1 chicken as a pet, then 2, and so on, and so on.  She now has 17!  She sells her eggs to the neighbors, it all started during the days of COVID.  She has her own little business going.  Good for her.    I like your photo of the chicken. Until we saw photos of my niece's chickens, did I realize the many colors and species there are. It seems like more and more people are raising chickens in their backyard.

Rich, I had no idea how you created this image but want to thank you for sharing it and the directions.
It is so cool.

Our club has a meeting next week where we will be bringing it set-ups for our club to photograph.  I wonder if this would be a good idea for me to try. If only we had a sink in the room.  I wonder if you have to use ink.  I have food coloring from my cake decorating days and if I dyed some water very very black, and maybe thickened it up a tad with some Glycerin, the consistency would be the same as ink.  I would try it here at home first to see if it works.  Maybe it is not a good idea for the group shoot, I don't feel like repeating the process all night.  If more than one person could take the shot, it would work maybe.  I could dump the water into a pail and start a new setup.

Geez, just typing it all out here convinces me that this is not a good idea. At the last setup we did, I brought so much stuff, I had to make about 5 trips and I said I would not do it again.

Got any more good ideas like that one, Rich? Thinking about all of the images that you have shared, you did a lot of unusual set ups.

Here is a bird to continue the thread.

Wow, Rich, that's interesting....magical looking. Like looking at stalactites and stalagmites and marveling at the formations....well done! Was the ink oily or thick? I was just wondering why it just didn't blend in into the water but formed this nice image??

Hi, Lorell. Hope your vacation was all it was meant to be! Your niece must enjoy the chickens if she keeps getting more.....the different breeds lay different colors of eggs, too. That's fun! Your egret has great morning light on it! Great whites, none blown like so many of my full sun egret shots.....

Thanks Lorell and Natalie!
Lorell,, welcome back! Good egret photo. Good highlight and shadow detail. Glad you are back and getting rested up. I have a friend in our condo building that goes to Gulf Shore, AL every year. They just got back a few days ago and both were very tired from driving. I don't think that would be an easy show and tell project. Out of ideas for now...stay tuned. I did remember when you said Glycerin, I think I mixed a drop or two of it in the ink. Will take some experimenting to get the right consistency. Here is a link to the ink I used.

Nice capture, Natalie.

I remember those images, Rich. This is a very nice one.

Hi Lorell. Glad you made it home safely, but sorry about the weather on the drive.

That's quite an ambitious set up you described, but I'd bet it would yield results.

Excellent photo of the egret. It appears that you were just a few feet away.

A shot taken Saturday morning...

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Thanks all for your generous and positive comments.

Yes Rich, I agree , probably not a good idea. Maybe I will just show up this time . Hopefully there will be plenty of others who will bring their ideas.

Dave, that is a nicely composed trio of blooms. Great contrast.

Thanks Dave! A beautiful capture of red! I like that you used a purple for the mat color instead of red!

Lorell, yes, this technique needs practice. I would suggest the sumi ink and not food coloring. I am also thinking to try the ink drops without glycerin first. Something in the back of my brain says that adding glycerin to the drops will make them float. The ink is thick.
