Weekend Mar 2-3, 2024
#1
Greetings all. Yesterday was a miserable day here, weather wise. Rained all day with temps in the mid 40's F. Starting out that way today, but is supposed to stop by mid morning and perhaps a little sun later. I really wanted to take the new camera out yesterday, but might try to this afternoon. Of course I will get a chance tomorrow to photograph 2 of our grandsons as they compete in the state wrestling tournament.

I took these two photos in Texas. First is a Hispid Cotton Rat and I believe the tern is a Forster's Tern.

Hope all have a good weekend.

Two great shots, Don. I see you found how to change the mat size! How did you get such a great shot of the rat? Are they tame there??? The little yellow pieces of corn adds interest. That tern shot is also very good. It's hunting.....I like the soft background colors. You got some great shots so far from Texas!! Pouring rain and very windy here today. Good day for a nap.

Thanks Natalie. I got the rat shot at a little "nature center" where someone had set up a feeding station for birds. There was a lot of corn on the ground which naturally attracted the rats. So not tame, but pretty common at the feeding station.

Wonderful captures, Don - I agree with all that Natalie said.

It sounds like you have noticed that it's often hard to ID terns because so many of them are similar.

In a convoluted twist of a phrase most have heard:

- One man's weed is another man's blossom...

Taken yesterday in my overgrown front yard. I know what I like and don't like about this shot; am curious if others see the same things.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Dave. Well it seeems to be hiding from the viewer?

Don such marvellously crisp shots. Smile

beekeepers say leave the dandelions in your yard. They are one of the earliest flowers for bees in spring......they don't need to worry, my yard will soon be blooming in dandelions! I don't have much to complain about in your image. Nice blurred dark background. A couple of wee ants for interest. I might clone out that yellow egg looking thing on the leaf. I like the leaf in the foreground....nice orientation and great framing. Well done, Dave.

I don't think it is a dandelion flower. It looks more like prickly lettuce or sowthistle?

Saturday Morning Behind the Goodwill Store, seen in a different quality and color of light...

This one pleases me: the mood of the scene, that values, the depth, the wet pavement - together these may be enough to overcome the uninspiring subject.

I was especially happy with the colors; to my eye they work together well, as an analogous color palette often does, to unify the image.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I am going to our local theater for a play in an hour or so. A comedy called " Unnecessary Farce.

Good Rat photo, yellow corn adds interest and color.

Lovely Tern, good background colors and out of focus gives the bird impact.

Hi Natalie and Peter!

Dave, if it is a dandelion, don't curse them, pick them and make wine!!! Good one!

Wonderful cloud photo! Wet street adds interest!
Focus on what brings you joy! ~Unknown~
