Happy Monday everyone,
Peter, is it still Monday down under?

I got up and went to swim aerobics this morning.  I just finished prepping for a pot roast that I will put in the oven before I leave to join a friend at the movies.  It has been a long time since there was a movie that I wanted to see.  I picked the movie,  The Holdovers.

THE HOLDOVERS follows a curmudgeonly instructor (Paul Giamatti) at an elite New England prep school who is forced to remain on campus during Christmas break to babysit the handful of students with nowhere to go. Eventually, he forms an unlikely bond with one of them as well as the school's head cook.

From the sneak previews on TV, I think it is going to be a "feel good" movie.  I am ready for that.

Today on FLICR's Macro Monday group, the topic is dinnerware.
Here is the photo that I submitted for that.  You still can drag out your plates, cups, salt and pepper shakers, steak knives, napkins, etc., and take a macro shot and submit it in the group.  There is a lot of activity in this group.  Come join us.

This photo is the combination of TWO LENS BABY VELVET images.  One that is in focus, the other that has the velvety effect.  I layer them in AFFINTY. Easy peasy,

LORELL

That is exceptional, Lorell. It is a privilege to see the work of a master.

I'll be absent for a while.

We lost Pippin today.

He had been slowing down quite a bit recently and became quite lethargic the past 4 or 5 days; nothing seemed to energize him - he even stopped barking at the mailman. He hadn't eaten on over 3 days. And over the weekend his breathing was sometimes erratic and he experienced  occasional full body twitches.

He was still fully mobile and there was no indication that he was in any pain, but it became clear that he was nearing the end of his days. Today the vet agreed and Pippin passed peacefully, surrounded by those whom he loved and who loved him.

Pippin was a rescue dog and he had a tough act to follow, coming after our first Westie Guinness. But the little guy quickly won our hearts, and he will be missed.

I'm reminded of two of my favorite quotes about dogs:

Be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

A dog is the only creature that will love you more than he loves himself.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Dave,
My heart hurts. I never knew what it felt like to lose a pet until we lost our first rescue dog, a beautiful brown lab. It is just the worst feeling ever.

Pippin was a sweet little dog. I swear he enjoyed posing for your camera. Your house must seem so empty now. I am glad that he did not suffer.

I feel for you, friend.
