Holliday Weekend Sat-Sun-Mon Sept 2nd & 3rd & 4th, 2023
#1
Greetings all! A beautiful morning in South Dakota but  the afternoon temps will be at the century mark. Temps to get back to normal after Monday.

I was cruising through some old trip photos and ran across this one from a trip to Washington, DC A very famous photograph that was made into a sculpture. We have a Marine that is from my town that was there when they raised the flag. He is still alive I believe and was honored a couple of years ago. He is in one of the photos but not this one. Name is Jack Thurman. Here is a link if you are interested.  https://www.southdakotamagazine.com/thurman-iwo-jima

Thanks, Rich, for the patriotic start to this weekend's thread.
You caught the flag in the right moment and the back lighting and framing is perfect.
I hope you are all enjoying your weekend and staying cool and collected.

Here is one from last week's classic car cruise.
Sorry, it is a dumb composition, but I was moved by the saying.
Hard work made America great and we sure have been blessed.

Thanks Lorell, nothing wrong with your composition, many photos are taken that way in today's world. Good message!

Good morning to all. Since it is a holiday here in the U.S. and not much activity from the weekend, I extended this thread another day.

Rich, a very famous photo indeed. I believe I read somewhere that it was somewhat "staged" as the photographer wanted to take another shot after the first one. I may be misremembering that. What matters is those marines did indeed raise the flag there.

I like that angle Lorell. It is different and interesting. I found out yesterday, after the fact, that there was a classic car show here in town and I missed it. There was also a Ham Radio contest yesterday that I wanted to try but I didn't think of it until it had been going on for 2 hours. Drat.

The local photo club's theme for this week is bridges so I drug out a couple of photos from the archives, but instead of meeting on the first Monday they are meeting on the second Monday. We'll be out of town so I will miss it.  Anyway, here are a couple of the photos I was going to show.

Don, Yes, I believe you are right on the staging of the photo, Glad he did. I didn't know Jack Thurman personally, but I knew his sisters, and where they lived in town.

Beautiful Bridges. The second one is my favorite. Looks like it is blocked to traffic. Maybe because of weight limits and needs repair.

Here is a bridge on Route 66 in Oklahoma, driving over it in my buddies 55' Chevy. We have been friends since grade school.
