Good Monday Morning All,
Well, we survived some serious storms that blew threw our area last night.  We are one of the lucky ones; over 700,000 people are without power this morning.
I hope all is well with you.

I missed going to a photoshoot yesterday with the club. I woke up and didn't feel well enough to subject myself to about 5 hours of walking around in Detroit, especially since the high was going to be 86 degrees.  It is nothing but concrete and not much shade, so I thought it best to pass on this one.  Here is a photo from a previous visit to one of the historic buildings in Detroit.  At one time, there were a lot of stores with expensive clothing and accessories on the main floor.  Not too much remains of that fashion corridor anymore.  But here is a portrait of a manikin in one of the store window displays.

Lorell, over the years you have done an admirable job of documenting Detroit's renaissance with your quality photographs.

IMO, the city owes you a sincere Thank You.

I read about the storms and the resulting outages in your area; glad you avoided the worst of all that.

Taken yesterday and processed (quite minimally - it didn't seem to need much more), this photo made me realize that I've seen less than half the usual number of bees and butterflies this year than what used to be normal. That realization both saddened and alarmed me.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Dave, did you ever read Silent Spring?

Yes, I've read it several times, first in the mid 1960s, and most recently last year.

Rachel Carson's book was a wake up call and made some important progress towards undoing the damage we do to our home. But we've forgotten her lessons and are now despoiling our planet in ways far worse than and at a rate that Carson could never have imagined: causing temperatures to rise quickly to a tipping point, polluting our air and water, causing the extinction of species at an unprecedented rate.

My main regret in life is not being a grandparent, but over the past 5 or 10 years I've come to accept that this is a good thing - I wouldn't want grandchildren of mine struggling to  live in the ruined world we are creating.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Yes. I have grandchildren and I am not overconfident of their future.

The only thing I can say is that I raised my children with open minds and with the ability to look more closely.
