Well, it is photo club week for me at my local club. And as always, you get to see a sneak preview.
Last week I mentioned that Stahl's automotive museum had a new attraction when you first walked into the building. Inside a glass case were a number of "toys" which were automated.  The challenge was to take a decent photograph through the glass with all of the reflections bouncing off of the outside.  This particular toy is probably about 30 inches tall.  It is called the WRITER.  I will try to get more information on it on the web.

Here is what the PLAQUE says that describes it:
M. Bertrand: Pierrot
"Writer"
Circa 1895
This Automation writes, grows tired and sleeps as his lamp goes out and relights.

So, I did a little more searching and found that as Pierrot writes, his head follows his hands across the page. Slowly he tires and his head drops to his chest as the lamp on his desk dims. He wakes up and his left-hand turns the lamp back on.

If you go those this website and scroll down a bit, you will see a video of this impressive animation.

Enjoy your Tuesday,

Impressive "toy", Lorell. Good job of working around the harsh reflections. The Stahl's museum has provided many fine photos for you, such as this one.

This morning was cold (by SoCal standards) and clear. In fact we may have up to a week without rain, but after that the next storm will blow in.

On the return leg of my early walk this morning the sun had risen enough to highlight this small (and unidentified so far) bird perched on a succulent blade...

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Lorell,
I like it. Solid use of your fish eye. You have distortion down to a controlled minimum.
Dave,
I still have white on white. Your bird is tiny. Good use of colour.

Lorell, I love your subjects and your shot. The wide angle is amazing...You did well taking the photo and not allowing the reflections to interfere...If it were my shot, I might have a play with it....I would use Raw Editor to lighten the main subjects face and arm and to slightly darken the second figure and the red lamp and the yellow boat. That way the center of interest is highlighted.  just my thoughts on it, it is excellent as it stands. I, too, would LOVE to see these toys in action!!

Dave, your sparrow on blue is very dramatic....the orange/browns in the plant nicely mimic the bird's colors. Well done!

Grant, brrrr....so glad I don't live in a winter every day state! Although it's raining and it's drab outside, your area is much more pleasing to look at!!
