Hello FotoFriends and Blessings to all on this Sunday.

I finally feel more like myself after a few days of rest.

Our cannoli shells turned out great, it was definitely a two many job making them.
Thankfully I had the Kitchen Aid Pasta Maker attachment to rolling the stiff dough out. The thickness had to be less than the thickness of a quarter!
There was no way that I could have done that manually.  I would still be rolling the dough out today!

But I rolled the dough, cut the circles out of it, wrapped them around the metal tubes, glued the ends together with a little egg wash, and handed them over to my DH to drop them in a fryer.  The frying took only 1-2 minutes max but had to be watched closely so they would get overcooked.  He finally got the hang of it after about the 5th one realizing that they continue to get brown even after you remove them from the fryer.

We made 33 of them!  It was fun and it turned out well.  We all liked the shells because they were light and fluffy.  Sometimes when you buy them from the bakery, they are thick are hard.  They must be because they sometimes sit "filled with cream" in the bakery's showcase for hours or longer.  I did not fill them until just before I served them.  They were the best ever. I wish I could share. But this is the best I could do.

Have a great day all.
LORELL

Mmmmmm...beautiful shells...I've actually never eaten one. I made pumpkin pie for our dessert. Only time we make it, and we love it! Don't know why we don't have turkey and pumpkin pie more often, seems like only at Thanksgiving and Christmas, but we love that, too. Especially the leftovers. Hot turkey sandwiches. Chicken salad sandwiches or on a bowl of salad. I also made some potato pierogies ( My parents were Ukrainian, and we always had them but we call them varenyky) Ate too much. Gonna have to diet now. UGH

Lorell, glad you got rested up! Tis a big job making holiday meals, especially the Italian way!
Shells look wonderful and I bet they were delicious! I had a bakery cannoli in Boston sitting in the shadow of the Paul Revere statue as he rode his horse.

Here is the shot of the statue as I was sitting on a park bench enjoying my cannoli

Hi Natalie!

Hi ladies, and same to others who visit later.

The cannoli shells look great Lorell.

Natalie, I agree with you that a turkey dinner (and then the leftovers) are worth having more than once or twice a year.

Hi Rich; you posted while I was correcting my usual many typos. Nice photo. Like everything else in your city it looks immaculately clean and well maintained.

Our Thanksgiving was intentionally low-key; my halfway formulated grandiose plans had to be scaled back quite a bit. First, I'm still trying to shake a cold. And second, when you're cooking for just two or three it doesn't make sense to prepare a feast that feeds five or six. So I decided I'd buy turkey parts separately. But nobody had small amounts of turkey breast for sale so  I got a few thighs, some cranberries for my home-made cranberry orange relish, and items for stuffing (StoveTop mix plus a few spices I wanted to add. With a cold lingering I figured we'd have our Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday. I prepared the relish on Friday (it seems to taste better after a day or two) found a recipe I liked for turkey thighs and cooked them yesterday along with stuffing, potatoes, green beans, and crescent rolls. It all tasted pretty good, so even this scaled-down meal was worth the effort.

I haven't taken many photos lately, but when I was setting the trash cans out to be emptied early yesterday, I saw the morning light doing nice things with some whitish plants across the street. I ran in and grabbed the camera but in those 30 seconds the light had changed and the nice illumination effect had diminished. Still I took a few shots and one seemed good enough to share here...

I've been enjoying the World Cup games, watching all the games that were aired on FOX and even waking up very early to catch the other games on a local Mexican station. Now that 3 of today's 4 matches are done I'll settle in with some leftovers and brews to watch a couple of NFL games.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Hi, Rich! A cannoli with Paul Revere! How fun! What a nice statue!
Dave, that seed pod was worth your running to get the camera! The little needles are nice and sharp and that dark background is perfect. Really good light....Beautiful shot!! Sometimes it's hard to "scale down" a meal. sounds like you did well! When I make Borscht, I always end up with 9 quarts. I tried cutting down the recipe, but it did not taste right, and I still ended up with 6 quarts. So.....from now on, the full recipe and I give away several quarts!! Win win situation!!

Wel Dave, I don't know what the morning light did that grabbed your attention but this photo is a sure winner! I don't think you could make it any better!

So Rich, what was more memorable, the Trip to Boston, Paul Revere's Statue, or the cannoli?  All sound and feel exciting to me.
Cool photo, taken from the perspective of a man on a bench, one hand on the camera and the other on a cannoli.  I see the benches on the opposite side of the street.

Dave, My dear Aunt only liked dark meat and when she was not well enough to travel and join us at Thanksgiving, I made her just the turkey legs with all of the trimmings, as you did, Dave. She loved it. And then the next day, I made another full turkey dinner.

So Dave, you must like dark meat. Sounds like you had everything you needed for the perfect feast and some  left overs to boot.

I got to tell you, that image is stunning.  I like the slant of the furry fuzzy part of the thingy at the end of the long stem. MFI, you may check my botanical nomenclature, but I think I got it all correct.

Natalie, My father was pure Italian. He did not like Turkey.  So, several times my mom would make HOMEMADE RAVIOLIS, which he loved as an additional dish on Thanksgiving.  When she got older, she couldn't do it all and my dad finally had to adjust.  But she did that as long as she could.  I would love some of your homemade potato pierogies.  I bet that they are deeeeeelicious.  Once I made them and they turned out well.  But I didn't like the fact that after I boiled them, I had to put them in a skillet and finish them by frying them up in a pan. Do you fry yours in butter?  Have made any and then sprinkled cinnamon and sugar over them?  Do you use Farmer's Cheese?

DO I have your mouth watering yet?  Mine is.

Pierogies: My son and his daughter like the potato filled ones. I saute onions in a skillet and after we boil them I put them in the onion skillet for a few minutes. My daughter likes the cheese ones. I use Farmer's Cheese in those. Only butter and salt on those. We eat both with lots of sour cream. My mom used to make some with blueberries, some with strawberries. Those had sugar sprinkled on them ....so good!!

Lorell, I think they all have equal weight! A trip to Boston where 10 travelers from my town formed the B.A.R. club. That would be the Boston Association of Rebels. However the cannoli was good and I have not had another one since then which was 2015.
