I can't leave us with no Daily, even if nobody responds.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Lovely. I think you need to start a huge rose bed in your yard, Dave!! Wish I could.

Thank you Natalie.

I'll not attempt growing roses anytime soon. Clint Eastwood said in the 1973 movie Magnum Force: "A man’s got to know his limitations." And in this case, I know mine.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

They are not hard to grow. They are however difficult to make look healthy and beautiful. Selection of the best species or cultivars suited to your soil and climate are essential. Otherwise you are going to waste a lot of money on a pile of disappointment.

I have seen houses down the street dig a hole and plant a rose in the middle of their yard and it is gorgeous, huge, full of blooms. Just a mile away on my farm, nothing. I have planted so many things that have failed. I have hard clay soil....drains poorly.....

Soils. Gotta love Costa:

“Ahh soil. I love learning more about it each day. Not interested in going to mars and meteorites when we have planets and universes beneath our feet that are barely known and understood. And we all can be part of these small steps for humankind in our very own suburbs and backyards. 3,2,1 Houston, we are digg’n it. Costa.”

The understory.

Nothing. I like the quote.....you are a man with a lot of wisdom, about a lot of different things. And if you don't know, you research it.
My daughter is trying to amend our clay soils. She puts down cardboard, then 4-5 inches of wood chips. She is planting trees and shrubs.....some fruit bearing, some not. I just wish our weeds would not come through it....she hopes to garden in the clay soils after the mulch breaks down.
