Grant, nice and loose. Sitting in a canoe, wow! Looseness is difficult for me to do!

This was an interesting read.......nice to see what everyone does on the side.....some very nice artwork here! I dabbled with watercolor some....actually took a class but the teacher passed away....she was very good and painted in a style I liked, more loose than I am.....I had been hoping to learn much from her... this one I tried to paint from a photo I took of some lilies....you will have to forgive me , I cannot remember everything I posted over at WC....

Natalie,
Your watercolour is a bunch of work. To be loose it is best not to try and paint inside the lines. Instead let the colour break free. Outside of the box if you will be so bold. In art repro, without creating a profiled file, One is tempted to darken the image to save the highlights, however that with some heaving of the paper after wetting [showing some shadows], tends to muddy the image. That is all I have to say about that. You have talent I would add.

Natalie, well done on both of your paintings!
The darks of the background do make them pop. The second one using masking fluid is done well! I like the muted background. Each of us has a style we are comfortable with. I am a semi-detail painter.

Nothing wrong with Illustration. I reserve my camera for detailed work. Not that I have never done detailed drawing & painting. I just prefer not to. I leave that for you with more patience....

My latest painting, Gregory Goldfinch. This is the European cousin of our Goldfinch. Quite different markings!

Rich, I like your goldfinch....I have been thinking about taking out my watercolors and a sketchbook. this makes me a bit more motivated! Need to do more than think about it, though....
Since I posted the dental pick/scraper in the WhatIzIt post, I will post what I did with it.....I may have posted this at WC before....sorry for the repeat! The dental tools are finer than clay sculpting tools. Mrs Clause is about a foot tall......

Natalie, thanks for the comment.
Your sculpture is quite amazing! A lot of detail for being so small. The boots are awesome as is the face, hair and hands with fingernails!. Well done!

Natalie, Sculpture is very challenging. Well done!
Rich, I like the water colour. You got rid of most of the pencil lines. How did you do that? |
