December challenge - Padlock
#11
Black & White works well for that image Patty. Yep, bolt cutter would make short work of that.

Love the alley shot Lorell. Great colors!

Funny joke Peter. I laughed out loud the more I thought about it. Good image too.

Spotted this at the state park in Florida.

Wonderful start to this challenge, Don. Brown and gray is a nice combination. Add the great composition and the interesting textures and this is a definite keeper.

Very nice, damar. Values, composition and details are all A+.

Wonderful vision to see this scene, Lorell. And your processing always impresses with how well it suits the subject & scene.

Funny, MFI.

Don again: lots of contrasts here: man-made object in nature, silver & gray among green & brown, various textures, strong value contrasts. Well spotted and executed.

Well, I suppose I should contribute a photo.

Taken on a gray morning behind a sushi restaurant.

A number of things in this scene interested me...

 1) The strong geometrics - it was fun working out a composition that I was satisfied with.

 2) The various grays.

 3) Making a relatively blah gold appear to be the COI while avoiding a gold color so garish that it was jarring and incompatible in this image of subdued gray.

 4) And including the graffiti as a sort of social commentary.

Not sure how well I succeeded, but at least it's not another flower macro.

C&C is welcomed. As always when I ask for C&C, hearing what you like about the image is nice but learning what I could have done better is more helpful.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

This is a good one, Dave. The graffiti on a nicely painted door and brand new looking padlock, does make a point. Nicely framed by your cropping design.

Have just done a quick job on an old image. I previously did a B&W version, which I may have put on WC.

Thanks Lorell. It was good to walk outside of my comfort zone and try something different.

Peter, that's an impressive image. Lots going on to attract the eye, but it hangs together; great colors and values; solid composition. It's one of those photos that keeps looking better the more I view it.

Thanks Dave. Looking again, I think that that if I decide to use it at the camera club, I will reduce the "painterly" effect a bit.

Peter, a nice close up and I really like your post liquify treatment.

Late this morning I took a walk behind the nearby small mall; some interesting stuff back there for a photographer - bits of electrical and water infrastructure, stark and unadorned geometrical shapes and angles, and a number of padlocks.

This photo isn't really about the padlocks, but since it has 4 of them I guess it qualifies for the challenge. I was more interested in the shapes, lines, and composition and I confess that I used the presence of the padlocks as an excuse to post the photo...
