I understand and agree with what you wrote. Of course we don't post our bad photos.

With digital photography I can take hundreds of photos in a single outing without spending anything but my time, and that time is usually very enjoyable, especially if spent with a photography friend. And if I get only 2 or 3 good photos out of 500, that's fine - I get some exercise outdoors and have an enjoyable couple of hours.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

One more Great Egret photo (probably another repeat post - sorry) that seems to belong to this thread, taken 03/25/2005.

It shows the delicate plumes that nearly caused the extinction of this species for no better reason than to sell women's hats adorned with a few of these plumes.

Yes. It is all about getting out and about. The camera is a good excuse for the same. All the photos aren't really bad, just not the best. Each one is a record of what the camera saw or rather what I pointed it at and from which POV. Though maybe not the best photo, it may well be a record of a rare event.

Once had. surrealist artist stayiing with us and I found him going through a box of my reject slides. I said "they are my rejects, you won't find any good ones in there". He said "on the contrary, there's so much compositional inspiration in here".

Good point. I think it shows that an artist with a different perspective (in this case you surrealist artist visitor) can often see value in things that we photographers miss.

Good lesson in that.

He was doing a painting for my sister. He wanted the image to have a local feel. I believe that was what he was finding in my not so impressive slides assortment.

Egret on the limb is awesome Dave. Doesn't matter if a repeat

Excellent photos Peter. Love the transparent wings! Ducks seem to be looking all the same way except one. Good capture!

Methinks this lizard would be a bit difficult for an egret to swallow. The egret may be the one eaten. It is about 8 feet long

Yes, you're right about which would be predator and which prey.

Very fine photo!
