Lovely details on the flower, Dave. I love the sharp details on the edges on the petals. The brown strokes look like an old method of quilting called Sashiko. It is an elongated straight stitch just like the strokes on your petals. Like all quilting, years ago it was all done by hand.  Now one company has invented a machine to replicate the design.  And what was old is NOW NEW AGAIN.

I posted the cheese grater Dave to give you some motivation to photograph things around your house. It is not a very good shot, but it was fun to take. When I looked through my lens at the set up, it looked so cool. It would be so easy to duplicate.  AN important factor is a black background.  Do you have some black velvet  material?

Here is another fun idea that someone had, although my photo did not come out very well, I just didn't take the time to carefully plan my composition, etc.  I don't even think I used a tripod and this was something that you needed to use a tripod.

The setup was this.  Get a black background and base, your computer or IPAD, and a glass filled with water or even a crystal vase or something else see-through. I am not sure where he found the background pattern, but he set the glass of water in front of the iPad with this pattern on it and we took the photo.
By the time I got around to taking this set up, it was partially disassembled and the bottom frame on his IPAD was exposed instead of being carefully covered by the black cloth.  So, that is why you do not see the stem of the glass.  There were a number of different backgrounds that were saved on the IPAD,  but this was the only one that worked for me. There were a lot of other setups. I personally did not have much of a successful night, I was kept busy setting up still life after still life in my white box, I had 5 different ones going on.  In between setting up, I grabbed my camera and ran around taking photographs of the other photographer's ideas that they brought to the night's activity. Next time, I will do something a little more simple.

Well, Dave, I have ONE MORE THING to add to this rather long post.
Now that you are back on FLICKR, I invite you to join the "SMILE ON SATURDAY" GROUP. It is fun and a way to really get into sharing photos on FLICKR and having people see your Stuff.

Read the directions since there are some restrictions regarding what to post, tagging,  the 24-hour window for posting, etc.  But you have plenty of time to look for an image in your archives that has neve been posted to use for the current challenge or even take a new photo, which I am going to do. This Saturday's challenge is HANDS.  Here is the snip from the actual directions:

For this challenge, you can take a picture of human hands, animal hands/paws, hands of figurines or statues, hands of dolls...

I hope to see one of your photos there, Dave.  How about "PAWS" holding a dog's toy?  I know you have an excellent model who would pose for that.
