Well, Don, at least you submitted something. As I read your report of the winners, I can see where many photographers that attempt to hold fast to the classic form of images and subjects, may not participate in this competition next year.

Our annual Club Photo Print competition is this month.  And I just don't have anything that I am all that wild about.  It was always convenient to send in the photos to  COSTCO and pick them up the next day. The cost was also cheap.  I am sure you know that Costco or Sam's Club is no longer an option, so, I am not sure if I am going to participate this year.  I feel like a party pooper if I don't. We have two categories, B&W and COLOR.  I with they had a third category, "Artistic Manip", because I do not feel that the first two categories should be competing against the painterly artistic creations that, other than using original images as the starting point, the end result is almost 100% manufactured using the software.

You all know how much I love using editing software, but I still think my painterly and artistic creations should not be judged next to the other categories mentioned that were just tweaked to create impact and interest.

Like Dave said, "Yes, too often it comes down to which genre the judges prefer."
I still don't understand when I watch a National Dog Show competition and there is just ONE JUDGE that calls the winner. How intentionally biased is that?

Dave, That is a nice one using the fill-the-frame technique.  Well done.

I was out this morning trying to find some snails to take photos of.  Filickr's MM (Macro Monday" has "shells" as the challenge.  I now have a bunch of snails eating my hostas and after a while, I found one.  I moved it from the hosta leaf to the rose petal. I grabbed my camera and before I could take its photo, it fell off and I could not find it  Bummer.

So, I decided to take some photos of flowers along the back fence of our property. I am not sure what these are, but am hoping that Peter drops in and identifies them for me.  They are a flower that grows on a vine.  My neighbors planted them years ago and although they are pretty, they can get overgrown fast.  I hank at them and pull them out by the arms full, but they manage to grow back without a care.  The leaves are actually a greyish green.

Here is a close-up and a not so close up.
Have a good start to your week, fellas.
LORELL
