Nice captures of parts of music history, Lorell and Rich. Although I am aware of both Hoagy Carmichael and Glenn Miller, I can't say I ever listened to their music. Missed them by about a generation.

When I'm out walking (always with my camera) and something catches my eye, it is usually brightly colored and/or has strong contrasts in values or color. This one was different: I was enjoying the diffuse morning light that made its way through the May gray layer of clouds, remembering older shots in similar conditions (some that turned out OK and many failures) and idly wondering if I'd stumble across a good subject. I spotted this blemish-free rose, and immediately thought about the mood of the scene and if I could capture my reaction to it right then. (Gotta admit that this is rare for me: usually I see something, think "That's nice!" and start firing away in burst mode.)
I kept these two things (the mood of the scene and it made me feel) in mind during processing, determined to not overdo the adjustments, telling myself to show restraint with color saturation, brightness, value contrasts, and sharpening. In other words I actually had a plan this time, and this image turned out to be the closest I've come to portraying how I felt about what I was seeing.
So I'm happy that both of you noticed and commented on the "mood" of the final image. Hmmmm... having and following a plan seems to work. Maybe I should do it more often.
