Natalie, The Fringe lily is a lily. Belongs to the Asparagaceae family.
Plants tufted, to c. 35 cm tall. Roots with elongate tubers 2.5–7.5 cm long, c. 7–10 cm distant from rootstock. Leaves few, subterete, 6–15 cm long, usually withered at time of flowering. Inflorescence erect, usually simple, rarely few-branched, with one terminal umbel and several sessile umbels along scape below; umbels 1–4-flowered; perianth segments spreading, 7–12 mm long, pale mauve; fringe on petals 2–3 mm long; stamens shorter than perianth segments, anthers curved, 3 outer c. 3.5 mm long, 3 inner c. 6.5 mm long. Flowers Oct.–Jan

The local indigenous name is difficult to spell (sounds like durummellin)and the name is different to each tribe as they have different languages but it means, standing on one leg. Because the leaves tend to die off as the spring turns to summer and the flower spikes stand out.

There are some subspecies and as usuall the taxonomy hasn't yet been fully described for these and many other species in Australia.

My local ones are shy about flowering. Conditions have to be just right. They will flower from October on and I've photographed them as late as February. They may only have one flower and stop. They may continue to produce flowers at the rate of up to more than a dozen on some days, other days they may be almost impossible to locate even though they flowered yesterday. I photographed one plant which had several flowers where I had not seen a plant in that spot beforehand. Took she who must be obeyed to show it to her and it couldn't be found amongst the umbrella grass. The next day I found it because one flower had opened. photos below. The white flowers in the background are Scaevola humilis, a ground cover with small white to blue flowers shaped like a hand or fan as a common name is fan flower.

Happiness simply is.
There need be no pursuit.
