Don,
Main difference easy to spot between Trametes and Stereum is that T. versicolor has numerous pores on the underside of its fruiting body
In regard to Stereum ostrea, false turkey tail, where the underside is smooth and lacks pores, white to gray or a reddish-brown shade in color.
The data says This fungus is native to the island of Java, Indonesia and has been misapplied to the North American Stereum species Stereum fasciatum, Stereum lobatum, and Stereum subtomentosum.
This photo which I got by rolling a log to see the undersides, shows that Trametes versicolor does indeed have numerous pores.

Happiness simply is.
There need be no pursuit.
