Friday!!!

Nothing new this morning so I reached way back into the archives to pull up a couple of images from Naples, Italy (1998). I was there on military duty. I think I was using a Canon point and shoot. Pretty poor quality images. First is a hotdog stand in downtown Naples, the second is a photo taken in Sorrento, located a few miles south of Naples along the Amalfi coast. The Amalfi coast is one of the most beautiful places on earth in my opinion.

Thanks for starting a Daily for us, Don.

Yes, camera technology and capability sure has improved. I remember that my first digital camera was a Mavica. It saved on 3.5 inch floppy discs, so you can imagine how poor the resolution was.

Like you, I have no new photos to share. But I do have something different from over 5 years ago that I've titled “Waitin' for the Bus”.

I believe this is the only photo I've taken of people out in public, and I find myself wondering what their story is The man is wearing a hat that suggests he might work in the agriculture industry. His expression seems patient and maybe stoic. And he has a great beard. The elderly woman (his mother?) has a face full of character.

I wonder what their destination is. Is it a routine part of their daily lives? Or maybe an unavoidable meeting or appointment that they are not looking forward to?

BTW, I think I've got my Flickr account working right. I have 33 photos uploaded, and will add a few more each day. For any with a Flickr membership who are interested, my Flickr name is droll.1967.

I wish us all a good weekend.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

I love today's theme and I love all of the images.
Don, please do not apologize, I totally enjoyed your photos from years ago.  Because of their age, they are now new again.  The woman sitting outside of the tiny fast food joint has such a longing posture to her, as if she wishes she could bring herself to splurge on some fast food "delicacies", but is  not giving into the urges.  The coastal shot is beautiful. I wonder how much it has changed in all of these years.

Dave,
Yes, that is a good one that really has a lot of interest and mood.  You said it all very well.  Great profile of the two, I think they may be a mother and son shot.

I am sitting here anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new lens, which was suppose to arrive yesterday! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
The gloomy morning to a blue sky and temps in the mid-70s, WOW.  I am ready to take my lens for a test run at the nearby nature center. But here it is 1:00 and I do not hear any UPS trucks approaching. Yesterday, the UPS truck sailed by at 12:45.

Last week's photo club challenge was STREET PHOTOGRAPHY.  Some of the people took it literally and submitted photos of streets!  I was a little disappointed.
I guess our members would have benefitted from the following definition:

Street photography, a genre of photography that records everyday life in a public place. The very publicness of the setting enables the photographer to take candid pictures of strangers, often without their knowledge. Street photographers do not necessarily have a social purpose in mind, but they prefer to isolate and capture moments which might otherwise go unnoticed.

Both of your people shots are fine examples of street photography, Don and Dave.
I will show you some of the FIVE that I submitted for the club meeting last week, starting with this one:

All good street photos, even froom Don's point and shoot. Wink

Dave, searching Flickr for droll.1967 doesn't find you.

Nice one, Lorell. And thanks for the kind and thoughtful response (both here and on Flickr) to mine.

Thank you too, MFI. Strange that you couldn't find me on Flickr. I just tried it (entering droll.1967 (that's 5 alpha characters, a dot, and 4 numbers) and searching for people, and it did work. Try searching Dave Rollins; that will pull up 13 or so results. Then look for the one with droll.1967 just below the name.

BTW, how can I find you on Flickr?

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Another day gone, but the weekend is coming up!

Strange that folks in a photo club would not know what street photography is... but it would have been better to define it beforehand. I like you example Lorell.

Peter, I did find Dave's Flickr account and started following. I have an account but it is the free one and I have very little on there. I might try to upload some more and might even spring for the "Pro" version.

Yes Dave. I worked out what I was doing wrong. Searching photos rather than people. It is in the pop down when you type in the search area. I'm now following your beautiful selection. I'm afraid I'm not so selective about the images I put up and now I have more than 8,000 on that Flickr site. I also have another Flickr but SugMug have chaged the security and it makes it almost impossible to log into so I may have to write to Flickr and get them to shift it over to the one I'm paying for.

Thanks for following me on Flickr, Don and MFI

For me, the paid Flickr account (Flickr Pro) is worth the price ($72 at this time) for a few reasons:

1) unlimited uploads
2) and NO ADS! This alone makes it worthwhile.

Two things I don't like:

1) No phone number for customer service or technical assistance: you have to find the right place to describe your problems; somebody will read it and respond, although not always with the right fix for what isn't working.
2) They automatically renew your account each year, debiting whatever credit or debit card you used. I don't know about the rest of you but at my age I could be gone tomorrow, so it makes no sense at all to commit to a perpetual auto renew.

BTW, would you two (and all other FF members who are on Flickr) mind sending me a PM with your Flickr account names so I can follow you?

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!
