Sorry I missed yesterday. The rest of the family (including Pippin) went to San Diego to visit my wife's Mom. She's in her mid-90s, healthy and mentally as sharp as can be - certainly sharper than I am.

So yesterday I made myself a list of 5 tasks to do; ran out of gas and then fell asleep, but before that managed to get 3 of them done.

In a Daily some weeks ago there was a brief discussion and some photos of birds in unusual positions, and I mentioned that I had several old ones. Finally found this one and reprocessed it earlier this morning - flipped it horizontally, recropped, tweaked the values and color intensity, and sharpened for posting.

It's a Great Egret at the Bolsa Chica Wetlands Ecological Preserve, taken somewhere between 15 and 25 years ago...

You all have yourselves a good day.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Very well done Dave.
Thanks for starting the daily too. I was wondering if I should.

Here's a bird in an ungainly position.

Hi MFI, and thanks.

Yes, the position of that beautiful bird is awkward, but probably very logical and useful.

Somewhere I have a photo of an audacious squirrel in a similar position, devouring the seeds of one of the sunflowers we planted.

Next week the FIFA Women's World cup starts in your country (and New Zealand). Are you a fan of the game? Will you be watching?

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Good morning Dave and Pete. Interesting bird photos to start the day.  Not sure what happened yesterday - I saw that several folks logged in (including me) but didn't post anything.

I finally took my new to me Lumix point and shoot out today for a test run. I have to say i am just a bit disappointed. The RAW images seem to be pretty noisy, even in good lighting. I shot both RAW and JPG and actually the JPG images are better IMO. I had to do a bit of post processing on the RAW images to sharpen and remove noise.

Here are some of the photos, just shooting whatever looked interesting.

I will need to do a lot more shooting but it may not become my "travel" camera. I would still take it with me on the motorcycle. I was shooting at ISO 400 so I might drop it to 200 and see if that helps. Kind of spoiled I guess by my DSLR cameras.

Looks like a nice place to take photos though, Don. Musicians and artists.

Here is a hover fly, not hovering but pollinating.
