Hello there.

Well, I am finally rested from this past weekend's trip to Port Huron, Michigan with the photo club and Mother's day celebration. It was a good weekend.

On Saturday's trip with the club to PORT HURON, we saw a lighthouse, a tiny museum (Thomas Edison), and the BLue Water Bridge and a BOAT LIGHTHOUSE that was turned into a museum.  I always provide a scavenger hunt for the group.  It is always optional if one wants to participate but since I LIKE GAMES, I enjoy going out for a shoot if in addition to the things we are looking at, I have to search for additional things that I might not have taken photos of but did so because of the scavenger hunt challenge.  (phew, I need to take a breath after that long sentence) Most of the time, the things on the list are just OBJECTS, usually no more than FOUR,  but sometimes they are techniques, like when we went to the orchid show.   I shared that one with you about taking photos of FLOWERS through FLOWERS.

The three categories for this weekend's scavenger hunt were:
  1. Something Nautical
  2. Look Up 9thanks, Dave, your MAY challenge gave me this idea)
  3. Something, RED, ROUGH, or ROUND

So, here is the image I chose for Something Nautical.  I took a shot of this freighter coming down the St. Clair River.  It was a pretty impressive ship, but the shot didn't do it justice.  SO, I decided to turn it into a painting.  I love SHIPS and TRAINS.  We saw at least FOUR freighters going down the river on Saturday.  They are HUGE and fairly close to where we stand on the shoreline watching them pass.

This ship is called the Kaministiqua.
Have a terrific Tuesday.
LORELL

PS.  I do not know if you can open this link, but there are some pretty cool effects using PHOTOSHOP SHOP.
It was shared with our club by one of our members.

Thanks for starting us a Daily, Lorell.

Whew! A very busy few days for you. If I gad done that much, I'd need at least 3 days to recuperate.

That's a great image. I really like the near-complementary purple and gold interaction. Purples can be challenging to control, but when done right as you have done seem to impart a intense energy.

No new photos from me. But here's an oldie that I've added to my "to paint" list...

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Lorell, photo scavenger hunts are fun. We had a few when our club was active. Sounds like a good trip!

Awesome manip of the freighter! Beautiful colors as Dave has said. Good composition and a gull near the pilot house ( bridge.) Thanks for the link!

Dave, A soft flower with lots of interest. I can see why you want to paint it!

Here is a lake on one of my trips. I think near Memphis. Early morning fog.

A couple of awesome manipulations there, Lorell and Dave.
Lovely misty view Rich.
Not much going on here apart from losing a hearing aid and having a birthday.
I forgot to mention falling over and hurting the other shoulder.

Peter, oh dear dear Peter. You need to take better care of yourself.
A belated Happy Birthday and I hope you have enough money saved up to buy a replacement hearing aid. Those darn things are so expensive. My husband got new ones just two months ago.

Thank you all for the nice feedback on my watercraft. I really appreciate it.

Dave, your high key macro is awesome. I wish the background of the pages of our thread were gray, then that high key floral would pop even more.

Rich, you captured some nice mood as a result of the fog over the lake. The peninsula is positioned nicely in the composition. It is really a great shot.

Hi Rich. Thanks for your response to my floral.

Beautiful photo - it's peaceful and soft and subtle, but also has a very effective strong value contrast. It is begging for someone to paint it in watercolors.

MFI, sorry about your recent mishaps. And thanks for commenting on my floral. It's not a manip, just a normal photo with a modest amount of typical adjustments.

Thank you Lorell. I agree with you that the white background of our site can alter the appearance of posted images, whether high key or low key. That's why I simulate a mat and frame; this slightly lessens the effect of the white page background.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Peter, thanks!
Tough luck! Aids are very expensive to replace.
Take care, quit falling!

Lorell, thanks!

Thanks Dave, for the nudge! I am between paintings and there it is right in front of me! I have been thinking landscape. Will give it a try!

If only I'd stop acting like I was 17 rather than 70. I do try to feed myself and while doing so attempt to create a place for nature to have its place.
