Weekender, January 7-8, 2023
#1
After 23 inches of snow here there have been many photos showing drifts and cleanup. On one of my FB friends page someone commented, in jest, "Yes, we all have that amount of snow, can we move on to spring?"

So, in that comment this will be my last winter photo unless something spectactular happens.

This morning, looking through the fog and grey skies. I turned it into a B&W since my world is that color now!  Cool

Thanks for starting our weekend Daily, Rich. Those look to be unbearble conditions.

I was treated to a nice sunrise on my morning walk today. And to add some color to this Weekender, here is the first one - processed about 20 Minutes ago...

Wishing you all a safe, healthy, happy, and productive weekend.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Dave,
Great sky !!
Rich,
We had that much snow but over a month. Are you happy not to shovel?
Still have Jack Frost decorating the trees.

Dave, now THAT is a colorful sunrise. Good presentarion!
By Southern Cal's definition it would be unbearable, to us just another day in Paradise.....kidding! We just grin and bear it!

Grant, very happy not to shovel. My last house before I moved into the condo was a corner lot with a double car garage so had lots of work. I had a snowblower though, but still....

I guess I lied when I started this Weekender. The sun came out and brightened things up a bit so had to take a photo. Last one....promise...fingers crossed...behind back.

Dave, that is amazing....such color.....you do have better sunrises and sunsets than we do!
Grant, that is COLD....when we get some icy branches, they melt the next day!  It is beautiful to look at!! But glad I don't have that cold of weather!
Rich, striking what a little bit of sun does!! And so clean!  In a city, it would all be black by now. Aren't you glad you don't live in a big city with smog?
I was looking through archives, I think I posted in WC almost everything I shot. !  Did find this little acorn shot with some moss....warms you up after all those snow scenes, doesn't it?

More photos of nature's frigid beauty, Grant.

Rich, the same comment to you.

Great concept and superb photo, Natalie.

Back to February 2017 for this shot of a knothole in an old fence...

Thanks Natalie! We don't have many cars or smog producing industries but if we did our constatnt wind would blow it away! For that I am grateful!

That is an excellent photo and presentation. The addition of the green simulates the acorn falling on the forest floor! Beautiful!

Thanks Dave. Well seen photo op and perfectly photographed. Blurring the background throws the interest to the knot hole.

Here is one from the early 2000's, the WWll memorial in DC.

Thanks, Rich and Dave on the comments....
Dave, it's always fun to find something unusual to shoot, like your knothole.....great shot.
Rich, love the water feature shot.....it must have been very moving to see this memorial in person at night.

about the WhatIzIt shot I posted, I'll wait for a few more guesses before I give the answer....anyone else going to make a guess?

What iz It?  I did not go back to check, but I guess my guesses were wrong.  I will go look at it one more time.

Glad we have a nice weekend daily going on here with a lot of variety.

Natalie, I do not ever remember seeing that photo in WC-ville.  That is really cool, colorful and clear.
Dave, your skies are beautiful, I think it has to do with the water.  The sunsets in Florida on Gulf are breathtaking too and always so different and colorful.
and what's NOT to like about that KNOTHOLE? Any predictions about tonight's LIONS VS the PACKARDS game?  Go ahead, be honest.  I do not think we have a chance considering the home-field advantage.
Grant, I too am glad that our temps are not as cold as yours, although they do create stunning photo opportunities.  Are you tired of shoveling snow yet?
Rich, The photo of the war memorial in Washington is really nice.  I think that would give me goosebumps and tear in my eyes if I saw it in person. In that case, the person who designed it did a great job.

Well, it is SLIDERS SUNDAY in FLICKR-ville and here is my entry for today.

Blessing to all,
LORELL
PS. Natalie, I took one more guess at the What Iz It challenge.

Thanks for the comments about my knothole photo, Rich, Natalie, and Lorell.

Rich, very good capture of the memorial, and under challenging light conditions too. The gold and deep blue work well together.

Hi Natalie. Your WhatIzIt? photo isn't as easy as you thought it would be.

Lorell, I'm not sure what the Sliders theme is all about, but that's a well done manip.

Tou asked about my prediction for Lions vs Packers. I give the Lions no more than a 40% chance of winning, but I'm still picking them to upset GB, by 4 points. But they still need Seattle to lose to the Rams to make the playoffs, and I don't think that will happen.

I'll share my playoff predictions once today's games determine who is in. But I'll say this much now: I'm picking San Francisco over KC in the Super Bowl. SF has the best defense in the league, which will hold KC's great offense in check. And SF is on a roll (they have won 9 straight games). And SF the offense is more than a match for KC's rather weak defense.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!
