Good day Foto Friends.

I'm still without new photos worth sharing, so I thought I'd post some FotoSketcher versions of an old one.

1) The original, first posted on WetCanvas back in February 2017...

2) A subtly altered version of #1...

3) A version using a black & white pen and ink drawing layered on top of the original shown above, with a few other adjustments thrown in...

It was a fun spending about 30 minutes working on these.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

I am sure know that I enjoy altering photos comes as no surprise to all of you.  I sometimes have to force myself to post "what looks like the original", hee hee.

Of the above, Dave, I like #2 the most with the added saturation and highlights.  It is a nice composition. Thanks for staring our daily.

I sent the following image to my daughter yesterday hoping that she could use it in her 4th grade classroom.  I told her to ask the kids how many pumpkins are on the table.  And I will do the same for you.  I know that the file size makes it difficult for you to actually count each pumpkin, but let me know what you think.  The winner will be announced in tomorrow's daily.

Have fun,
LORELL

Nice Dave and Lorell,
THINKING OF DAVE AND PIPPEN, Just outside the town I live in is close to a turn off to Phippen so I think of you every time we drive past. Here is an image of Leroy. He climbed up over Bev onto the couch pillows. We call her his Mom.It is the first time....

Peter, thanks for playing. I will let you know tomorrow if you are correct.
Is this sweet Magpie a frequent guest? It is a nice clear capture. I
His eye is crystal clear and such a pretty cinnamon color.

Grant, If this is the first time, does that mean that neither dogs lay in. Bev’s lap? Nice falls tones in the portrait. I was wondering, are you still painting? Do you miss your old studio?

Lorell, This bird was one of a pair that a local who seems to want to surround herself with pets had clipped wings. Both birds escaped captivity and begged for my help. One became food for a local sparrowhawk, it wouldn't have survived long anyway with a damaged leg and wing. The other greets me at the door every morning and follows me around the garden, picking up whatever I disturb. Has been all year. He still hasn't managed to grow feathers to fly properly because the resident magpies want him out of their territory and continually pull the feathers he needs to fly with. If I locked him up until the wings are full again, he'd probably pine for the open spaces and likely not get proper nutrition. They are difficult to feed because they need to catch a lot of live insects, worms, mice, skinks and all that. Butcher's mince will not be the correct food. Our magpies are such wonderful carolers but have a fierce reputation for chasing strangers from their territory and thus are either our favourite bird or our worst enemy during nesting season. My birds don't attack me. They are grateful for the fact that my garden is continually bountiful for wildlife.

There are often conflicts between the avians but there is food aplenty so they learn to share.
One magpie against a dozen apostlebirds can be entertaining to watch. None of them want to get within range of that sharp beak.

Lorell, that's a lotta pumpkins!! I will guess 109, although those in the back too blurred to count right. do you know actually how many are in the photo?? How did you count them?? Hard!
Grant, Leroy looks comfy there and he matches!! Which came first, Leroy or the color scheme?? LOL!
Your magpie is handsome!! How friendly is he? Does he have a name?

Peter, I see you posted same time I did and answered my other questions, like why is he hanging with you and for how long has it been and how friendly is it? LOL!

I call him digger. He uses that beak to punch down and get things like curl grubs. Scientists have observed them listening. They can locate a curl grub under the ground by hearing it moving, chewing. Once located they spear it and pull it out. I also had a neighbour who liked a drink, he called everyone digger. Digger was a term that was applied to Australians during the first world war. Apparently they were good at digging tunnels and trenches. Probably because many had worked in goldmines or were opal gougers. All the birds hang with me. They know my face. It is a kind face, not a nasty one.

Someone asked, what do I do about swooping magpies?
I said, first of all put their eggs back in the nest.
