Hi Everyone!
I am going to spend some time going back and looking at older posts. I took a quick peek...saw some tractors and beautiful flower shots!
I have 3 quilting projects in various stages that I'm working on. Biggest issue is materials acquisition's since I have to go out of town to
get what I need or wait for internet orders to arrive.

Tying a quilt with yarn or embroidery floss is one way of holding the quilt layers together and is time honored and acceptable.
I haven't tied a quilt together in years so I did a small sample project to test my techniques or try new ones.

Rather than spending time piecing together a top, I just went whole cloth.
It's about 36 x 45 inches and will be used as an ottoman cover. Its difficult to see the small yarn ties, but it was tied on a 4" grid.

Hi damar, and thanks for starting the Daily.

I know absolutely nothing about quilting, but that looks like darned good work to me.

SoCal (and other areas of the US Southwest) are in for a heatwave. It started today and temps are forecast to rise through Monday. My area is close to the coast, so I'll be spafred the worst of it (maybe 94 F = 34 C). But some areas in the SW are looking at peak temps of 110 to 115 F (43 to 46 C).

I have no new photos, so here's one from 8 to 15 years ago...

It's a male Rufous Hummingbird resting for a moment in my back yard. They used to be temporary visitors, stopping here for a short time during their long migrations between central Mexico and southern Alaska. But it seems that a growing number of them have become full-time SoCal residents.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Oh My, that looks so soft and cuddly.  When I see that, I long for the winter months and an opportunity to cuddle up with something like that.

Good to see you, Patty. We have missed you. I see that your sewing has been keeping you busy and with some excellent outcomes.  I like that material. With material like that, I don't think I would cut it up into pieces.  What does the back look like?

Dave, You snuck in while I was posting.
Hey, we both took a photo of someone "perched".  I like the little bird. It is so sweet and the simple composition suits this capture well.   Nice one, Dave.

That's a beautiful quilt Patty! Good job! I like the design and layout of it.

I have been MIA lately. As one of the chairpersons for a multi class reunion I was busy but we got it done this past weekend. Had a good turn out for years 1961,62,63 and 64. About 120. Had house guest too, a life long friend and his wife from Oklahoma City. So now today the hot water heater goes out in the condo building so I am waiting for a repair man.

EDIT:
Dave, good one! Nice soft BG and a catchlight in the eye. We are starting to cool off this week with some normal temps of low 80's. Fall might be in the air!

Lorell, That looks like a neat place to have a coffee break or lunch! Looks like your "percher" wanted to get noticed with his bright outfit!

Hi Dave! Thatbis a top notch magazine quality humming bird capture! Really nice!
It’s hot here too this week. I am so over summer!

I love your red umbrellas photo Lorell! And the man in red just to the right!
Creates a great composition
Really cool downtown shot!

Hi Rich!
I’ve been MIA too…just getting things done while it’s still too hot to walk around with a camera.
DH is very busy with work and having to put 8n some hours during the weekend.
Water heater….always something, huh?

I just used a better quality muslin for the back of the tied quilt.
(seamed 2 pieces)
This was just a test project.

Looks good Patty!
Water heater was a gas company problem, bad meter shut it down. Good thing as the plumber said a new heater is in the 10-12k dollar range. This one was 5k in 2007.

Thanks Rich!
Good to hear that the problem is solved!
I guess that is a large water heater for several units?
Man, the cost is high (like everything else)
