Hi Folks

Yesterday morning DW and I went out to photograph the blood moon. It's the first time I have ever tried this, and the weather was perfect. The episode started at 03:32 and supposedly ended at 07:55, but my last shot was at 07:24, when the top of the moon dipped below the distant mountains.

This shot was taken at about 06:15, when the moon was just past max eclipse. I used my 24-240 lens set at 240 and focused using the micro focus ring. The camera was set on manual, F11, ISO 1600, and was set at 4 sec at that time. This was actually too slow to completely get rid of motion blur, next time (if there ever is one) I would aim for a 1 sec exposure or less - the earlier shots at 1/500 th are much sharper.

I worked on this image a bit. However, whether or not this is an improvement on the raw file is debatable!

At least you got to see it, I was  under heavy clouds....looks like the man in the moon is frowning down on our earth...I don't blame him.
Well, I have an old maple tree in the front yard that is rotting away at the top.....and it would have been expensive to hire a tree cutter. To my surprise, the electric company came to trim the trees and I told them if it was up to me, I would take the tree out. Guess what? The electric company took it out for free, and I got to keep the mulch!!!!

Peter, that is really colorful. Never saw anything like that.  Good for you. I love all the shadows that you can see on the moon.

Natalie,  and you are equally lucky.  OMG, that tree would have cost a pretty penny to have it taken down.  Those were some big limbs.  I am so happy for you.  I probably would have been afraid to ask.  And the bonus was that you got to keep all the mulch.  Now, don't you go killing yourself trying to spread it in your flower beds by yourself!

Speaking of which, when I get done here, it is time to go out and start working on my mulching project again. I have taken a three-day rest because  I needed it.  My legs were very wobbly yesterday, it was a terrible feeling. I guess the old bird ain't what she used to be.

This morning, I already visited a park to get more photos for my Thursday's meeting.  One of the topics is STAIRS or STEPS and I only could dig up one from my archives.  Today's photos are still in the camera but here is another photo that I plan to share with the club.  Can you figure out what this is the instrument panel to?

Good job Pete!  Definitely a Blood Moon! I did a sequence and put them all in one image in Photoshop the last time it happened.

Good deal Natalie. Same thing happened at the Condo. We had two trees. We had to get the stump removed though. They don't mind doing that when they are close to the lines.

Good shot Lorell, lots of detail. I would say an old train steam engine.

Had an oil change last week and today the shop gave me a 3 month free subscription to Sirius XM radio!

Edit to change name from Dave to Pete.

Thanks, Lorell and Rich!
Nice details in that shot, Lorell. I was going to say a train, too...don't ask me what kind.....

Yes, the inside of a steam engine. I think it is amazing, not my photo, but the instrument panel.
