Good morning all. Another cool day here but should be really nice later. I am hoping to take a motorcycle ride later. I am sitting here listening to a robin singing outside and it is a bitter reminder that we should be on the shores of Lake Erie right not enjoying the Spring migration of warblers and other birds. Sad

DW and I went out Saturday night to see a couple of friends play music at a wine bar up in Warm Springs. I have known these guys for quite some time now and have made many trips to the Kerrville Folk Festival (KFF) with them in the past. As you probably remember, I gave that up a few years ago. Anyway, as we were chatting after the music, KFF came up and I remarked how I missed going. So Joe, who goes every year and keeps a large 5th wheel trailer on his site year round, said if I wanted to go I could stay with him. So it is decision time for me. It will be expensive because I will have to buy festival tickets, stay in a hotel coming and going (it is a 2 day drive), buy food, gas for the truck, etc. On the one hand I don't want to intrude for 12 days, on the other hand it would be fun - probably. We are meeting them for dinner tomorrow night and I will discuss some more and make a decision then.

Hope you all are having a good week! No new photo from me, but maybe I will dig up some old photo from a previous KFF.  Big Grin

Good mornng, Don, and thanks for starting the daily for us.  Well, it sounds like you have a good time awaiting you.  I know it would be expensive considering how expensive everything is right now, but you won't be spending money for a while on your own summer trips because of your trailer being out of commission (geez, I don't know how to soften that up, so I just said it).  Also, gas would only cost $2.50/gallon because you would be splitting the cost as well as hotel costs.  FOR ME, the biggest factor would be spending 12 days with someone in a trailer.  Is this the fellow who is handicapped?  Is the fifth wheel roomy enough for two big guys with guitars, cameras, etc.?

Every day is a blessing and I think about that a lot more than I ever use to.  So, enjoy the gift.  You will probably have a great time and come back with some great pics and lots of good memories.

I am sure that you can make up your own mind but thought I would just chime in with some thoughts on the matter.

Sad Story
When I visited the zoo last week with the photo club, we walked through the kangaroo/wallaby attraction.  The zoo was buzzing about the fact that the newest member of the wallaby family, who was born five months ago, had emerged from the mama's pouch for the first time.  It was seen the morning that we were there and you should have seen the smiles on the zoo worker's faces.

Then just yesterday came this breaking news:  Detroit Zoo Reveals 5-Month-Old Baby Wallaby Is Missing: 'We Are Heartbroken"

I feel so bad for the zookeepers and the MAMA wallaby.
More details of the story are available if you click on the link. The area where the kangaroos and wallabies are kept is quite secure from the animals getting out.  Visitors have to go through double doors when they enter and exit, so that once the first door is closed behind you, the second door can be opened to allow you to go in, and exiting is the same. However, this is a big open area and there is no protection from the baby's natural predators who might fly in overhead.

Here is a photo was taken from within the area.

This reminds me of Grant's photo of Casper, right?

It will be just me traveling out. My friend will already be there - he is leaving next week because he has a gig in Houston. Plus I will be coming back home after the second weekend and not staying the entire 18 days. I have stayed with him before just for a weekend for the shorter fest in the fall. He is not handicapped, that is my other friend. The trailer is quite large and stays parked in his site all year. He only uses it for the festival. I am going to try to pack light as well, with one guitar and maybe just one camera. Usually we don't spend much time in the trailer because we are roaming around, visiting other folks, playing music, etc. But yeah, I do have reservations about being in his space for so long. But I am going to talk to him again tomorrow night at dinner and make doubly sure the offer is good and he really doesn't mind.

Lorell, that is so sad....but nature is nature, and stuff happens. What a shame....Your shot of the sleeping wallaby is cute!! Sometimes my cat sleeps like that!

Yeah, I don't either.  Smile Smile  But then with family I don't get to hang out with the cowboys and hippies, play music, maybe write some new music, see some old friends, imbibe and chill. So there's that.

And I see the Quote feature works. First time I have tried it.

Don, your KKF sounds like a good time! Hope you decide to go!

Too bad about the missing joey! Let us know what happens.

Boy, now that is one relaxed kangaroo, good one! Could have been me in my rack (bed) on board ship in Yokosuka, Japan when I turned 20. Legal age in Japan at that time but that's a story for another day!
