I took my usual 06:00 AM walk yesterday, interested in seeing how my neighborhood fared during the heavy rainfall and strong gusts of wind during the preceding afternoon and night.

What struck me immediately was that homeowners will be busy gathering up the large amount of pine needles on the yards, sidewalks, and streets...

As I expected, we didn't have flooding, although water 2 to 3 inches (about 5 to 7.5 cm) gathered in some of the lowest spots of the streets. I decided to find and shoot a scene with inverted reflections in a spot where water gathered. This one worked OK.

All things considered, my area survive the storm with little apparent damage. Unfortunately, other areas not too far north and south, NW, NE,east, south, SE and SW weren't as lucky. Substantial flooding (especially in hilly terrain and closer higher elevations) endured flash floods and mandatory evacuations.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Wow Dave, pine needles are a lot of work to pick up. I used to have to do that every fall until we moved into this condo! Nice reflection photo. Glad you missed the heavy storm.

Our Corn Palace Festival starts tomorrow. We are in a heat wave at the moment. predicting 103 tomorrow with a heat index (combo of temp and dew point,) of 108. Probably wait until it cools off in a day or so. Hope to get some night shots. Since the surgeon told m I have no restrictions on the hip surgery I am going to give it a try.

The street sweeper gets them(pine needles) does it not?

Thanks, Rich.

I hope it's a successful Corn Festival, in spite of the heat. 103 degrees! You can have it – I don't want it.

MFI, I think I'd title that cloud formation photo The Southern Cross.

Our city street sweepers will get around to it eventually, and only partly. Some neighborhoods get swept on the first and third Mondays, some the first and third Tuesdays, and on through the week to the first and third Fridays. And they sweep only near the curbs, I assume they rely on auto traffic to take care of the middle of the streets.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Would be Southern except it is pointing West. Wink

Yes the traffic will take a lot of the needles away in their tyres or blow it to where the streetsweeper will get it. You were lucky not to get enough rain to wash it all into the stormwater drain and block it up.
