Good day folks. No new photos from me but I came across a bunch of old ones on an old external hard drive that I haven't used in years.

Gulls are so common here that I usually ignore them but this one turned out good enough to be worth the effort.

It's a Ring-billed gull, common all along our Pacific coast in the winter. Photo taken in October 2015 and slightly reprocessed this morning.

The ring on the bill evolved as a visual cue that stimulates the hungry young birds to peck at it, which n turns causes the parent gull to regurgitate fish it had caught.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Thanks Rich.

This is one of my favorites; I like that much of the bird's head (from the bill to the eyes) appears in focus but I don't remember how I accomplished that. The feathers show a pleasing softness, but there is also some feather details. And the soft background gives the image an overall calming mood.

I have one more shot of the same gull in (profile) that I'll try to remember to post in the next Daily.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!
