Welcome to a new week, everyone.
I hope all had a restful weekend, but that seems like that is about all we are doing for the last two years!
So, it is Macro Monday and this week's challenge was to post a macro of something and a measuring device so that you can see how big it actually is.  I used my husband's Micrometer to measure the diameter of this 2021 penny.

Since the macro lens as a very shallow DOF, I took 11 shots of the penny, focussing on 11 different points of the composition.  Then I did an easy focus merge of all 11 in Affinity Photo Software and let Affinity do all the work from there.

Have a good day all.

Hello Lorell and any who visit later. I hope all of you are well, and safe from extreme seasonal weather.

That's a pretty cool shot, and it sounds like a bit of work went in to setting it up, shooting, and processing. Well done!

Here's another photo from quite a while ago; it was my first decent photo of a Great Blue Heron. taken 2005-03-25 beside an artificial pond in a small park a few blocks from my home. As I recall, it was a rather gray morning but what light there was happened to strike the heron making its coloring show well.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Lorell, Dave already said it all.
Dave, That orange beak and around the knees glows.

More orange through the trees.

Smile Love your micrometer, Lorell. I might try digging out some pics of mine.
As for small things, try pulling one of these apart to service it, then managing to get it back together and working correctly.

YourGBH is absolutely gorgeous, Dave. Smile
Such a satisfying glimpse of orange there, Grant
These are velvet ants or in reality wingless wasps. Something you defiinitely don't want to find with a bare toe digging in soft hot sand. These parasitise other wasps by tunneling into their nests and laying eggs on theirs. The females walk rapidly around on the sand with the posterior pointing skywards releasing pheromones. The males which have wings stop their work of pollinating flowers briefly to come down and mate.

Greetings all!
A trip out to the Black Hills yesterday and back today. A 4 hour drive each way. An eye appointment at my daughters clinic. Everything good.

Lorell, that is a fantastic photo. A steady tripod and amazing software, plus a pinch (large) of imagination equals a fine photo! Well done!

Dave beautiful lighting on the beautiful GBH!

Grant. Lovely colors.

Peter, awesome closeups of a creature I have no desire to see in the wild! Great story!
Focus on what brings you joy! ~Unknown~

Thanks all for sharing your remarks regarding the micrometer photo. One of the biggest challenges is to think of something unique to capture or create a composition that has not been seen before, etc. There are times that I fall asleep thinking about “set ups” or items around the house that might work. But actually making it work so that it draws attention and feedback from viewers is the goal that is the biggest challenge.

Dave, as Grant mention, the glow effects the orange on the GBH, makes it quite eye catching. They are quite a photogenic bird since they walk very slowly and often pose while you take their photograph. But often times their plumage is disarrayed and they look like they combined their feathers with a pillow. You caught this one at just the right moment.

MFI, Your facts about the ants would keep me from working on my hands and knees if I had a flower garden in your neck of the woods. Sometimes I accidentally come upon a nest of aunts, teeny tiny ones, when weeding in my vegetable garden. I don’t even notice them until I feel the biting my ankles! They are so minuscule but when I look, I got a skew of them on me and their little bites hurt. Good macros, Peter.

Grant , a pleasant glow coming through those branches.

Rich, So, what is the forecast for later this week? I hope we continue to avoid snow. I have to take my SIL to a doctor’s appointment downtown on Thursday and snow would make it a real challenge.

Going now to TUESDAY’s daily.
See you all there.
