Since Dave is without a computer for awhile, I will start a post.

Here is a a diamond in the rough. A 1948 Buick.

Nice one, Rich.

Hi Michael.

Yes, I'm still without my computer. I found a local place that says they can help. Today I hope to remove the dead fan and take it to them. Hopefully they'll have a replacement in stock, otherwise who knows how it'll take to order and receive one.

I'm reading a fascinating book - Leonardo's Notebooks. Featuring many illustrations of his sketches each with numerous notes in his own words. The man was a genius in so many areas; drawing, painting and sculpture, the behavior of light, astronomy, perspective, architecture, anatomy, wonderful inventions of all sorts, and more.

Don't blame me - I didn't vote for him!

Nice old Buick. When cars were sturdy.
Here's a shot of a Black Walnut stump after the local power company took it down. I thought there was a weed coming up but upon closer inspection discovered a sprout growing from it. New life begins.

So many thousands of times, I performed bark grafts on these Juglans nigra stumps. The grafts were twigs slid under the bark and they looked a lot like this when dug up for sale.
Convinced the nursery owner to buy me two knives and I made a wooden handle, fitted the two knives and a metal plate with slots to take the two opened blades.
Thence one could do patch budding. The resulting trees dug up for sale now looked clean lines and natural.

Interesting, Peter. I planted the two walnuts over 35 years ago and they grew strong and large. I hate to see the little one destroyed so I may try to find a new home to a willing taker that has a good spot for it. I've got a couple of nice butt logs and a portable mill lined up for some slabs. My wife wants a charcuterie board from it.

The seeds germinate easily if kept moist and cold for the winter. ie: under snow is perfect.
