Weekend Aug 17-18, 2024 - Don - 08-17-2024

Good morning all. Slow day in here yesterday, hopefully a bit more activity this weekend. I guess everyone is busy.

Here is an image that I "salvaged" from my trip to Florida. As mentioned before, I only had my P&S with me and the focus for this fern was a little bit off. So I did some manipulation on it and IMO improved it just a bit.

Hi, Dave.
Thanks for starting the weekender with the bright green spray of fern fronds.

Today is the 2024 Woodward Dream Cruise.  I always say that I will drop in on my SIL who lives only THREE houses off of Woodward Ave.  I would have the perfect parking spot.  But the last three years my daughter and I have attended a charity quilting sale in a small town about an hour from her house and 1.5 from mine. As a matter of fact, I just got home about an hour ago.  It was a good day, since I am more into buying fabric and making quilts than photographing cars.

"the Woodward Dream Cruise is the world’s largest one-day automotive event, drawing over 1-million people and 40,000 classic cars each year from around the globe—from as far away as Australia and Japan. Cruisers from all across North America, including Canada and Mexico, caravan to Metro Detroit to participate in what has become, for many, an annual rite of summer."

So, there are no photos of cars to share, but here is a photo I posted in the club's meeting two nights ago. And it is from one of my sewing trips with my daughter.  Believe it or not, the photo has SO much color that it looks better in Black and White.  All of the colors distract from the star of the show which is A MADE IN AMERICA  SINCER SHOWING MACHINE.

Don't know the name of your fern, Dave. It is putting me off because it looks exactly like many Acacia leaves. Lovely composition of ferny leaf spray. Eye popping green.
Then we come to Lorell's withdrawal from colour to 150 shades of grey. Wink It really does make the lead SINGER in the band, stand out. Smile

Don, an eye popping electric green! Awesome!

Lorell, good choice to use B&W. Singer machine is the star of the show. WoW, 40 K classic cars!! That is overload.  Will check it out on Google.

Peter said "It really does make the lead SINGER in the band, stand out." Funny!

Speaking of classic cars....... Notice the license plate. A plate from my county...8...  in 1933. Perfect for a 1933 Plymouth! The owner is a man from my town and drove it from Arizona to South Dakota.

Hey folks, the photo of the lovely green fern was taken by Don, not by me. Very nice work, Don.

Beautiful, Lorell, I imagine that the color version would be an ideal candidate for your Spot the Differences challenge.

Hi Rich. I never tire of seeing your fine photos of those classic old cars,

RE: Weekend Aug 17-18, 2024 - Man From Ironbark - 08-18-2024

These cars represent a lot of money spent. Wished I'd had that to spend. Smile

Some more of my local scenery. This is a Clematis, native to SE Australia. Quite widespread and is known as Old Man's Beard, since it is the silky seed plumes that shine and glint in the light to look like beards swaying in the breeze as they hang from trees. Being a trailing climber producing lots of seed, its seeds get around.

RE: Weekend Aug 17-18, 2024 - Don - 08-18-2024

Good morning all. Got over an inch of rain here last night, first rain in about a week. A bit stormy as well for a bit. Cloudy right now but only a 30% chance of rain this afternoon.

I like the tones on your photo Lorell, suits the subject matter well.

That is a RED classic car Rich. Nice.

I've always liked those types of plants, Peter, the "silky" ones. Fun to photograph.

I shot this one as I was walking along the beach while in Florida. Almost has a "bas relief" look to it.

Don, why did I read Don and my fingers typed Dave?? I corrected it!
The footprint is awesome, nice catch! Reminds me of a poster I once saw.

Thanks Don, Dave and Peter for your comments.

Peter interesting plants!

Thanks Don and Rich.
I love the illusion of reversal in images.
Such as your footprint photo, Don.

RE: Weekend Aug 17-18, 2024 - Don - 08-18-2024

Just had a bit of a thunderstorm pass through. A few gusts and some heavy rain. Last night we got over an inch of rain so it will be interesting to read the gauge in the morning.  Also brought down a couple of tree limbs in the front. I'll be doing some work with the chain saw tomorrow. Probably should check the roof as well. Sad
