Weekend Aug 10-11, 2024 - Don - 08-10-2024 Good morning all. I got on the road early to go visit the "World's First Drive Thru Museum", about a 25 minute ride. Interesting place with all kinds of strange art and artifacts. Nice morning for a ride as well, before it gets too hot. Still keeping a eye on the weather for my trip next week. If it holds, I'll book a room tomorrow for Tuesday and Wednesday night in Panacea, Florida. Plan on having some good seafood while I am down there too! RE: Weekend Aug 10-11, 2024 - Dave - 08-10-2024 Thanks for starting our Weekender Don. Fun photo there; definitely a low-tech drive-thru. It says something admirable about small town America that many of them take pride in these kinds of local achievements. Less than 30 minutes before the US plays Brazil in the Gold Medal match in women's soccer in the Olympics. I have enough time to post something.. With no new photos to share I revisited an old favorite, giving it a new crop and an entirely different treatment. Since mornings here have been gray, I decided to go for something with eye-catching color, and I also used FotoSketcher (a free bit of software that can produce images that simulate many different artistic genres. I ended up with vivid colors presented in a posterized style... OK, about the soccer game. One would expect the US to beat Brazil easily. In their 6 games so far the US has scored 11 goals and allowed only 2, while Brazil has scored 7 and allowed 6. But Brazil has some advantages. They will be motivated to reward superstar striker Marta with a gold medal in what will probably be her last game. And they beat France (world rank #2) in the quarter-finals, then beat Spain (#1) 4-2 in the semi-finals, so they are definitely on a roll. Meanwhile, I'm worried about the style of play the US has fallen into in the last 2 games: way too much passing back when they should be pressing forward. It looks to me like they've been waiting for something good to happen when they should be making it happen. Still, I think the US will win, maybe 3-0, or 4-1, or 5-2. But they can't take Brazil lightly. RE: Weekend Aug 10-11, 2024 - Rich - 08-10-2024 Don, an interesting claim to fame! Dave, good treatment! Blazing eye-catching colors! Would brighten up any office! Here are his and hers 1930 Model A's. One a Coupe and one a Sedan. Any guess which is the "hers!" RE: Weekend Aug 10-11, 2024 - Dave - 08-11-2024 Thanks Rich. Beautiful cars, excellent photos. Hers has to be the peach-colored one. RE: Weekend Aug 10-11, 2024 - Don - 08-11-2024 Good morning guys. I like the treatment of your image Dave. Very striking. Love the classic car photos Rich. I can't imagine the dollars involved in restoring some of them. Here are a couple more shots from the museum trip. The red metal structures have all sorts of things in them, most (if not all) quite unique. Not sure what the red metal balls are - seemed to be hollow when I tapped on one. The next photo is an example of one of the displays visible in the window. RE: Weekend Aug 10-11, 2024 - Luv2shoot - 08-11-2024 Hello guys, This is a great weekender thread filled with a lot of fun photos. Don, the drive-thru museum is a hoot. Were you in your car or motorcycle? I hope someone can identify the big red balls, I am curious about them. I will have to read some of the previous posts to learn more about your trip to Panacea, Florida, but first I will have to look at a map to see where that is located. Dave, I just looked up the results of the USA vs Brazil soccer match. Hurray for the Red, White and Blue. Yay team. I must also read previous emails to see if your daughter attended the game. I absolutely LOVE your treatment of the monarch butterfly photos. Hurray for you too. That is awesome. Rich, Yes, it is obvious as you implied. Peach for a peach of a girl probably. I like the green stripe detail, it adds a nice touch, don't you think. Well, would you believe this week is our monthly photo club meeting and I have not taken one photo with my camera? And I have not shared with you the photos from last month's meeting. So, I think I have one that will do just fine for today's fun array of pictures. This was taken at the Henry Ford Museum. I hope all is well with you, LORELL RE: Weekend Aug 10-11, 2024 - Don - 08-11-2024 Good to see you back on Lorell. I was beginning to worry about you. " Don, the drive-thru museum is a hoot. Were you in your car or motorcycle? I hope someone can identify the big red balls, I am curious about them. I will have to read some of the previous posts to learn more about your trip to Panacea, Florida, but first I will have to look at a map to see where that is located. " I was on my new trike, 3 wheeled vehicle. That is what I plan on riding down to the panhandle of Florida on Tuesday. Panacea is a very small community south of Tallahassee. If I go I will be staying in an old mom and pop motel built in the 50's, that has been refurbished. It will be a quick trip, down on Tuesday and back on Thursday. Getting "in shape" for a longer trip up to N. Carolina in October. Still don't know what the red balls are. RE: Weekend Aug 10-11, 2024 - Man From Ironbark - 08-11-2024 The red balls could be repurposed buoys? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buoy#/media/File:Iron_Buoys_Great_Barrier_Island.jpg RE: Weekend Aug 10-11, 2024 - Don - 08-11-2024 Peter, I think you nailed it. Actually, I figured you might come up with the answer. You would think an old Navy man like me would have thought of that.
RE: Weekend Aug 10-11, 2024 - Man From Ironbark - 08-11-2024 Oh well, they were painted with slogans to take your eye off the ball.
